Sad if it’s true, what’s even sadder is that this guy thinks Trump gives a shit about him and his family.

I hope so for his sake...but also for all the veterans that the US right pretends to care about. We'll throw 'em parades on veterans day, run TV adds that say freedom isn't free, and talk 'em up at speeches but let's see what happens when actually helping them out is pitted against helping out billionaires that bend the knee.

republican politicians have a long history of trying to cut VA benefits and infrastructure.

In first few years of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars they tried to cut death benefits for survivors.

Absolutely. They've always talked far better than how they've acted.

But at least with previous administrations (including 45) we didn't have to worry about an immediate cutting off of everything.

Someone just walk him in to the fire so he can check for untended forest floors. He should probably stay at least 300 feet back or all of his hair spray and bronzer will combust.
    It's a hopeless situation...

Sort of along the same vein...

Voting for the Mayor Who Promised to Blow Up the City Doesn’t Mean I Approve of the Mayor Blowing Up the City

"It’s so easy to label people these days. From the way folks have been talking, you’d think everyone falls into two buckets: those who voted against the mayor who promised to blow up the city and those who voted for the mayor who promised to blow up the city. And now that the mayor, whom I voted for, is blowing up the city, as he promised, I’m one of many people who are being unfairly blamed for something I didn’t want. Okay? I didn’t want the mayor to blow up the city like he mentioned many times; I just wanted him to fix the old bowling alley like he promised in passing once. Anyone saying I’m partially responsible for the explosions is just a sign that they have no argument.

Before you rush to cancel me, try to remember the mayor made lots of promises, and I didn’t expect him to keep them all. Yes, he promised to turn our playgrounds to glass and take a blowtorch to the schools; yes, he said that he was going to use napalm on every grocery store, but, as I said, he also promised he was going to fix the old bowling alley.

Oh, how I loved that bowling alley as a kid. It’s been closed for twenty years, so when the mayor mentioned he’d fix it if we elected him, I had to give it a chance. To be fair, he was also the mayor a few years ago, made the same promise, and failed to fix the bowling alley then. But he did live up to his promise to reintroduce smallpox into local daycares, so at least you know he can get things done, unlike the other guy who did neither of those."... continues

I think there are several things going on here. Some combo of:
    • MAGA media dominance.
    • Inept Democratic campaigning.
    But also:
    • Some people were OK with the cruelty "as long as it's not happening to me." And now they're surprised it's happening to them.
    • Some people just thought Trump was cool. (It's weird but apparently true)
    • Some people just heard snippets like "price of eggs" and "eating the pets."
    • Some people were so sucked in by the MAGA misinformation machine that they really believed things like "he's only deporting the criminals" (no; he said they're all criminals); "they're just trying to end obvious corruption," and  that you know, all these billionaires were really in tune with what it's like to struggle and people like AOC are the out-of-touch elites.
You could argue Trump's campaign was about the most open and honest campaign we've seen. But people either didn't hear it, were fed biased/polished versions of it, didn't believe it, or figured the Deep State would stop the real bad stuff from happening. Even I'm surprised by how fast it's happening. But we knew it was coming.

A tweak to this, it was the most transparently dishonest campaign. They certainly weren’t honest (wE hAvE nO iDeA wHaT pRoJeCt 2025 Is AbOuT), but they were certainly telegraphing their moves in their rhetoric and have followed through.

Fair point. I neither knew nor cared if Trump understood Project 2025 because I knew he'd do what he could to implement it either way.

That said, there was a transparency to it. "On day 1, I'm going to..." Deporting people? Ending federal departments? Things like this are not a surprise. He was pretty open about it.

One lasting memory of this, which would only matter if we have contested elections, is that there's no mistake that they're getting things done. It makes previous administrations (including 45) look complicit and slow. MAGA, unlike Democrats, get things done...that's going to sell.

destruction is much easier than construction. that's not getting things done. but I agree that the maga lapdogs won't be able to tell the difference.
