He traded the corpses of Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the Nets for 3 straight unprotected 1st rounders ( 1 via unprotected pick swap), resulted in 3rd overall pick (Jaylen Brown) in 2016, 1st overall pick (traded to Phllly for #3 and a 2018 1st rounder then drafted Tatum) in 2017 and #8 overall in 2018 (Traded to Cleveland for Kyrie, pick became Jazz legend Colin Sexton).
Now the Kyrie trade didn't work out, that's on Kyrie not Ainge. The team he assembled in 2017-18 was loaded for bear: Kyrie, Al Horford, Gordon Hayward (in his prime), Brown in 2nd year, Tatum as a rookie, bench players like Marcus Morris, Marcus Smart, Aron Baynes, Terry Rozier and Daniel Theis. It went to shit 5 minutes into the season when Hayward snapped his leg. Then Kyrie ended up hurt and missing the playoffs, and the Celtics still pushed Lebron's Cavs to 7 games in the conference finals. The next season Kyrie checked out mentally (I still think I can pinpoint the exact moment, when they were inbounding for a buzzer beater against Orlando and Stevens drew up the play for Tatum and Kyrie just stood at midcourt) and the disfunction ended up causing Horford to also leave.

But to say Ainge was a blind squirrel is uninformed. He assembled a roster that could have won multiple titles, but injury and mental midgetness (Kyrie) unraveled the whole thing in 2 seasons time.

In subsequent seasons he was definitely guilty of hording assets and not trading some draft picks when deals were available, something Brad Stevens has not had any issue with since taking over. But Ainge had a hell of a run, let's not forget he also brought Garnett and Ray Allen in the same off season culminating in a title and again should have been maybe 2-3 if not for injury (Garnett in 2009, Perkins in 2010)

That the Colangelos and NBA conspired to tear up the Sixers and restore their beloved Boston franchise? Um yeah.

How do guys get head coaching positions in the NBA with no prior coaching experience? That could never happen in the NFL. Is basketball just easy to coach? Steve Kerr, now Reddick. Both went from broadcasting straight to being a head coach. Kerr had success because he was taking over a Warriors team that already had a foundation built by Marc Jackson. Plus, Kerr played under two all-time coaches in Phil Jackson and Greg Popovich so he learned a thing or two. Reddick is just gonna be LeBron’s yes-man, and he’s going to bomb.

The NBA is all about younger coaches who "get" the players nowadays.

The Lakers are notorious for making bad coaching decisions.  Luke Walton anyone?  There's a guy that literally had to "roll the ball out there".

Yeah, They've stunk and Lebron ahs not been any help w that.  Vogel was probably one of the better coaches that they've had and LBJ ran his ass out.

high price in terms of draft capital for a guy who's never been an all-star. amazingly it's the fourth trade all-time between the Knicks and Nets and first since 1983.
