Time's a masterpiece. It kinda does the seemingly impossible and sums up Pink Floyd in a single song. It's as Pink Floyd as a Pink Floyd song can be. It has sound effects with the clocks, a drawn-out, ominous instrumental introduction, depressing "this is life?" sort of lyrics, co-lead vocalists, a big sonic guitar solo, female backing vocalists going "Ooooooo" and "Ahhhhhh," and it segues perfectly into the next song (or reprise in this instance). It's the whole repertoire at work.

I have to admit I sometimes fast-forward the first two minutes to the part where it kicks in. Some might find it sacrilegious, but I used to edit Pink Floyd tracks down for burned CDs. Like, from the 8-minute mark of "Dogs" to about the 12-minute mark, NOTHING HAPPENS. Love that song though (the part where stuff happens), so I'd use MP3 cutting tools to be able to fit more tracks on a CD. Cutting the intro of Time, starting Shine On at Gilmore's first note (like 5 minutes or so in, shortening parts of Echoes, cutting the intro of Childhood's End (a favorite track of mine), things like that. That Floyd mixed CD was in the 6-CD changer of my old car for like 10 years straight, never took it out.  Left it in there for the guy I sold the car to.

I've had a shit day and have also realized that I've missed the proverbial boat on a few things.
    "Time" for the win, indeed.

BD/eclipse is my favorite song on this album.  Pretending the whole thing is here, I cannot vote against BD, although I love Time and expect it will win handily

Brain Damage is a masterpiece when paired with Eclipse, however Time stands alone.

    Time is the clear winner.

This is probably one of the hardest finals to pick in all of these polls, all the way back to Ten. If I ran 1000 iterations of my own vote, it would come back 500/500 with a margin of error +/- 1.

Nothing happens in Dogs between the 8:00-12:00 mark lol? That’s only the liminal state where babies are made.

I’d be worried you cut the serpentine belt or put sawdust in the transmission or something.

Not only is Time the best track on this record, but it's perfect to set as your alarm to wake up in the morning.  Such a versatile song!

    Meant to vote Brain Damage.

Doesn't look like it will matter as Time for the win anyway.

The choice between these two is fairly easy, but I wouldn't have chosen Time as the winner if I had a choice.

Just incredible music and lyrics.  only PJs Alive matches this song for me. my top 2 of all time.  just love every second of it.

Just couldn't bring myself to vote for Brain Damage,
the lyrics in the last verse relating to the mental issues of Syd are just heartbreaking:

And if the cloud bursts thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.

The only Pink Floyd song that hits me harder is Wish You Were Here.

    Big time!

This song is one of the best songs of all time.

The video accompaniment for it during the Waters Dark Side tour was absolutely awesome!

I'm going to put it on right now. No shit.

Both of these posts exemplify why it’s difficult to pick between the two. I voted Time yesterday, would vote the other way today, and tomorrow the other way again, etc. Bottom line is voting here is not a vote against one, but a vote in favor of the other.

    Oh where are you now
Pussy willow that smiled on this leaf?
When I was alone you promised the stone from your heart
    My head kissed the ground
I was half the way down, treading the sand
    Please, please, lift a hand
I'm only a person whose armbands beat
    On his hands, hang tall
    Won't you miss me?
Wouldn't you miss me at all?
    The poppy birds way
    Swing twigs coffee brands around
Brandish her wand with a feathery tongue
    My head kissed the ground
I was half the way down, treading the sand
Please, please, please lift the hand
I'm only a person with Eskimo chain
I tattooed my brain all the way
    Won't you miss me?
Wouldn't you miss me at all?

Syd was so tragic, mental illness is so tragic. Never take sanity for granted because it’s such a frayed line between sanity and insanity. Seeing Nick Mason and his band perform the early Pink Floyd stuff was such a trippy experience last week. You take a big risk anytime you flirt with the unknown.

The one problem with making my list of albums to cover.. I had to find albums with 10 or fewer tracks so they would fit in the polls.

Maybe try Fripp and Eno's No Pussyfooting.  Only 2 tracks!
