Tomas Young's Story Featured in NatGeo Mini Series 'The Long Road Home'
Airs November 14
November 10th, 2014 marks three years since we lost our beloved friend Tomas Young, Iraq War Veteran turned anti-war activist. Tomas was the subject of the award-winning documentary, Body of War for which Eddie wrote the song "No More" and performed "Masters of War". Pearl Jam Twenty co-author Mark Wilkerson also wrote a book about Tomas called Tomas Young's War that was published by Haymarket Books last year.
Most recently, Tomas' story is being told as part of an eight-episode National Geographic global mini-series called the The Long Road Home, which is set to air on Nov. 14 @ 10/9c (a special two-hour premiere debuted on Nov. 7). Actor Noel Fisher (pictured) plays Tomas. For more infomation on the series, go here.
The series is based on the New York Times best-selling book of the same name written by ABC chief global affairs correspondent Martha Raddatz. The stories are based around what became known as "Black Sunday," when a small platoon of soldiers from the 1st Cavalry Division was ferociously ambushed in Sadr City, Baghdad, in April 2004. Eight Americans would make the ultimate sacrifice that day and more than 65 would be seriously wounded. Their stories provide a gripping and intimate look at the toll war takes on soldiers and their families.
“The series will thrill you, move you and, so often, reduce you to tears, as every episode is filled to overflowing with inexorable sadness, nobility and truth.” - David Wiegand, The San Francisco Chronicle
RIP Tomas Young. Your giant heart, sharp wit and fierce spirit are with us always.
