$18.00. When young college and high school kids could afford to see all their favorite acts when they came nearby.

Help me out: if it was a no Ticketmaster venue, then why is that ticket printed in Ticketmaster stock?  Just curious.

I wonder if the Papa John's in Cleveland would honor the $5.95 Large one topping pizza coupon on the back? :smirk:

This is a ticket from the no ticketmaster tour. It was a great show. I truly believe that if the internet had existed back then Pearl Jam may have won that battle.

If the Internet existed back then? You act like it was 1896 not 1996.  We had the Internet way back then.

It was a no "Ticketmaster venue" tour. Summerfest was different then, these days they pre-sell all seats/lawn tickets for the headliners shows at the Marcus, but back then they only sold the first two tiers under the roof in advance. The third tier of bleachers and the lawn was first come-first served to anyone who bought at ticket to Summerfest. (That's why the tickets states "Summerfest Adm Reqd"--you still had to pay the $7-$8 to get in, but you could see the headliner for that price. So most people had no ticket at all, other than Summerfest admission.

The Marcus Amphitheatre at Summerfest was (and still is) a TM venue, but they let PJ handle sales of those those first two tiers--honestly not sure if they had rights to sell some or all of them. Getting these two shows that weekend was a huge deal for Summerfest, apparently exceptions to the use of TM were made.

We had PJ-sold non-TM tickets originally, but my roommate called me that morning saying he was a) stuck in Kentucky and couldn't make it back and b) had the tickets in his wallet. Oops. So I went anyway, planning to join the huge line for the lawn/bleacher seats. But having worked in arenas and for promoters and knowing how things work in a box office, I checked in a few times to see if anything better was available. (Production holds, unused band seats, etc.) Eventually they came up with a single...a Ticketmaster ticket. Even then, I thought it was strange to see a TM ticket. There can't be many of these for that show...or tour.

Lucky me, with the stage setup that ticket wound up as front row and not obstructed at all on Stone's side.

Edit: Found a note in Billboard that mentions TM selling tickets for this show. Though there were definitely non-TM tix from the band. Damn...I'd forgotten about the whole on-again/off-again drama.

It's hard to follow your point when you shift between the Internet not existing in 1996 to not existing like it is now.  But either way... the ten club is a mom and pop outfit run with a lot of passion but even with today's advanced Internet they have a lot of trouble selling tickets without the site crashing. I'm not sure they could handle selling all the tickets to a PJ show today.

There I fixed it.  I'm sure people would much rather F5 for 10 hours with a greater chance of getting tickets at the regular price than tickets selling out in 2 minutes with ticketmaster scalping the tickets. I think they could eventually work it out and get everything up and running well. When did pearljam.com start? I don't remember.

And there was more to it fighting ticketmaster than just selling tickets.
