My take is that collecting taxes is not the problem. Using them wisely- aye, there's the rub.

When did 'most' become less than half?

The federal government collected $1,476,218,000,000 in the first half of fiscal year 2016. Most of the $1.48 trillion came from individual income taxes, which comprised almost half of that total, totaling $675 billion.......close enough.

all that money and this country is in debt, time to tally up the receipts and make better decisions with America's money and stop raising taxes to off set the mistakes and sloppy spending by our government.

Give me the money. I promise I will spend it wisely, not selfishly!

I have a bigger problem with DoD budgeting and the obscene cost over runs on this new gotta have it toys than I am with benefits and the VA.

A much better job of targeting waste can be done in this area alone, that would fund soem of the better social programs being proposed of late and since Obama took office. As well as infrastructure. With some left over to pay down the debt.

It looks like about $600 billion on defense, and an additional $180 billion on veterans.

Mickey in no way was I saying we should cut services for our wounded military. The opposite.

Was referring to the costs due to politicians putting our soldiers at risk.

Just wanted total costs for our war mongering included, not just for all the hardware.
