IDW, in association with rock legends Peal Jam, will release an art book this summer titled Pearl Jam: Do the Evolution, ComicBook.com has learned exclusively.

The project will be officially announced this weekend at Emerald City Comic Con.

Drawing inspiration from the Grammy Award-nominated music video of the same name, Do the Evolution takes fans inside this unforgettable work of art. Directed by visionary comics creator Todd McFarlane (Spawn) and veteran animator Kevin Altieri (Batman: The Animated Series), the animated video told a graphic and dark history of the world in four gripping minutes and is widely considered one of the best music videos of all time.

Now, the full story of the making of this historic video will be told in the Do the Evolution art book from IDW. Lushly illustrated by the video's striking animation cells with never before seen storyboards and designs from the video, the video's co-producer, Joe Pearson, will guide readers through the fascinating process of bringing the band’s vision to life in this one-of-a-kind art book.

Pearl Jam: Do the Evolution takes its next step into comic shops this August.

    Pretty damn cool.
And so you see, I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true
    I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you.

Hardcover volumes of comic books are not cheap. I would expect this to be around $60 at the very least.

I raised an eyebrow at that too. I mean they've got to sell it, that's their job.

They forgot to add "animated" in that sentence. "One of the best animated music videos of all time" . That, I would totally have to agree.

Meant to say "That's not bad." Damn BlackBerry!

It'll probably be more for sure. Just depends how many different editions they are gonna make of this. Maybe a foil hardcover edition like those Walking Dead Compendium Books? Those are pretty cool.

Pearl Jam and IDW team up for ‘music video art book’

So what is a music video art book anyway? With Pearl Jam and IDW involved, at least you know it’s gonna be interesting.

One of the biggest -bar none- musical acts of the 1990s, Pearl Jam is a world-renowned group. I doubt there’s anyone who doesn’t know the pioneering grunge rock group, or their front man, Eddie Vedder. A dude who’s crossed more musical lines than just about anyone, both during and after the band’s breakout period.

And now the whole group is crossing over into something else – comics. Well, not comics per say really, more like art books; graphic novel art books to be precise. Teaming with publisher IDW, Pearl Jam is about to bring their hit music video ‘Do the Evolution’ to the printed page.

Comic book maestro Todd McFarlane directed the video, which was was otherwise crafted by animator Kevin Altieri, who’s also worked on the also-legendary Batman: The Animated Series. Basically, it’s four minutes long and tells a “graphic and dark history of the world”. That’s the video itself though (which you can see above), the book is another matter all together.

In the book, IDW and the above mentioned talent dissect the video, showing just how much blood, sweat, and tears went into the completed work. The thing’s basically going to have wall-to-wall animation cell art, and be polished off with never-before-seen stuff like storyboards and “designs”. Joe Pearson, the co-producer of the video, will guide readers through it all as well, so you should get plenty of inside info there as well.

All in all, it sounds like something that fans of Pearl Jam should not miss out on, and a tome that fans of animation and music alike might seriously want to check out. As for when you can expect to see Pearl Jam: Do the Evolution on the shelves of your favorite comics or book store, it’ll arrive this coming October.

Will defiantly be getting this. There is so much awesome artwork in this video that we barley get to see becuase it flashes past so quickly, having high quality versions of all these images plus all of that extra stuff all wrapped up in this book sounds like down right Pearl Jam gold in my opinion. This will easily be one of my top 10 PJ possessions, assuming it's done well.

Would be pretty sweet if they included a Blu-ray copy along with the comic book with the making of the music video & a 1080p HD version of Do The Evolution.

Yeah it's really confusing why they chose that image, I barley even recognize that from the video.
