Mix some self-help psychology with some weird alien shit. Make it secretive and pay money to be involved. Isolate members from the outside, and watch out for the phaetons!
Add in the fact that a science fiction writer developed it on a bet to see if he could convince people to fall for it....
my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf

You have some pretty strict restrictions on your Google, PJF. Here's the Wiki version:
Scientology is a body of beliefs and related practices created by American science fiction author L. Ron Hubbard, who lived from 1911 until 1986.
In 1950, Hubbard published Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health, explaining the process of auditing, in which a counselor guides a subject to recall traumatic memories and resolve the associated negative emotions.[6][not in citation given][7] In 1953, having lost the rights to Dianetics, Hubbard created an expansion called Scientology and incorporated the Church of Scientology in Camden, New Jersey.[8][9][10] Scientology teaches that people are immortal beings who have forgotten their true nature.[11]
I believe Scientology is also a forerunner of Donaldology, an other out-of-this-word mind trip a lot of people are eating up lately.
"Don't give in to the lies. Don't give in to the fear. Hold on to the truth. And to hope."

Donaldology lol that is great there are a few here who already subscribe to his teachings , me not being one of them ....
It is a pretty small religion that has amassed quite a bit of power. It was created by a science fiction writer. They even strong armed the IRS by filing an endless amount of lawsuits trying to get non-profit status. The tactic eventually worked. Allowing them to pay laborers slave wages at their facilities. There's a really good documentary based on a book. It's called Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief. If you really are interested check it out. Some fucked up stuff.

I am interested. Seems to be of topic lately with celebrities. Thanks. I still haven't googled it yet though.
I have not a clue. It is another religion out there. I know celebs seem to like it.
If you go to a Scientology Centre and just tell them that you are curious to know what it's all about, they will attempt to convert you, starting with a tour of the Centre and a lot of propaganda (not kidding). So if you're curious to learn more, just pretend you're a potential follower/cash cow, and you'll get the inside (insane) scoop.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata

Sounds like you did this? How high did you score?
No, I didn't do this myself.

One of my old bosses gave me a phone number for a place that he said could help me with public speaking. When I called, the lady answering the phone said, "Hello, Church of Scientology". I told her I dialed the wrong number ... I actually did think I dialed the wrong number except the same lady answered the phone when I tried again. I didn't know much about them at the time, except that it was founded by someone who wrote crappy science fiction novels several decades ago.
Now, a religion can have a little street cred if it started several thousand years ago, because we don't have time machines. But to go all-in on something started in the 50's is pretty insane to me.
My boss also gave me a copy of Dianetics when I left to work somewhere else as a going away gift.

To quote Maynard, he's a useful idiot.

The best way to make a million dollars is to start your own religion.
