I remember going to my local record shop at midnight for these. Damn, I wish shit turned out better for this band. Awesome albums. Get in the ring mother fucker!

  • These are a great album. They both stand on their own very well and as a single entity. Nobody was better than G 'n R during this time. The end of UYI 1 is insane. Don't Damn Me, Bad Apples, Dead Horse and Coma. You listen to the whole album and go - this is incredible. Then as those 4 end the album, it just builds and builds.

I remember buying the Romanian Child Relief CD (a great CD if your looking for old benefit compilations) just to get Civil War. Plus You Could be Mine on Terminator 2. Just so good.

I think I know what I'm listening to tonight. What a great album. Wouldn't change a thing.
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.
  • We all love them.

    Better Record --- # 1 or # 2?

If I need to choose #1 is by far my preferred.

If I had to choose I'd say 1. 2 sort of is a little Lost Dogsy. Good to great songs, but also some throw ins. Civil War had already been released in a benefit compilation, You Could Be Mine was on a soundtrack, My World is sort of - look what the f we did, we'll throw it on there anyway, 2nd version of Don't Cry, Get in the Ring (while a nice angry ode by Axl and friends, not one that can be played at mixed parties when you get older).... I love that album, but it's a bit of a mish mash. Though saying that, Civil War, YCBM, Locomotive, Estranged, and most of the other songs kick ass. But, it always struck me as a let's get whatever we have on the shelves that we haven't released on our own CD out in one place for our fans. Which is pretty damn impressive.

Whereas 1 is just a killer where you're like - ooh!! I love this song, then ooh! this song is killer. So on and so forth. If that album was November Rain to Coma it would probably be considered one of the all time great albums. (BTW, that stretch of the CD is about 40 minutes, or the length of a "normal" album. UYI 1 and 2 would have been a quadruple album and not a double CD. Think of that. They basically put out 4 albums worth of kick ass - mostly original - music at once).
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

I absolutely love these albums. Didn't listen to them for a while and when I dug them out I had no idea why I allowed them to collect dust for so long. I have a live show from Tokyo on this tour that is great. Disappointed I never had the chance to see them live though.

I think I prefer 2, to 1...but it's only a slight preference, and really probably depends on the moment. Maybe I just like blue better.

You're right though...UYI1 is looong. I wonder how many Backspacers fit in one Use Your Illusion 1 ahahaha

  • Had a throwback night last night and listened to UYI1 & then Paul's Boutique back to back while sipping Jean Marc XO vodka. My 2 month old son was chilling with me so I had to keep it low but his vote clearly was for the Beasties. (Which I still listen to a lot, I enjoyed the GnR more.)

Love both these albums, but think a few songs would've been better as b-sides.

2 would be my favorite, Civil War. 14 years, So Fine, Estranged to name a few....

2 always stood out for me. Estranged, 14 Years, So Fine, Yesterdays, You Could Be Mine, Civil War, Breakdown, Knockin' On Heaven's Door...all songs that at one time or another I could not listen to enough. Love that album.

1 is good too with November Rain, Back Off Bitch, Live And Let Die, and more but it never connected with me the way 2 did.

lovin' this thread! I'm in complete agreement w/ everybody about the power & genius of these records! I found them on tape at a Goodwill & still listen to them on a recorder I have. I always preferred 2 to 1, but sooo much great music on both of them kinda makes them equals to me... I was going into my sophomore year when these were released. It is a shame of what became of GN'R, though. I've got Chinese Democracy & it's not bad, but the vibe will never be the same as the 87-93 era...

These could never ever top Appetite! Each has some good songs and some filler. Even if you combine them into one, it wouldn't stand a chance against Appetite. I used to listen to these albums a lot in high school but now when I listen to them the terrible songs really stand out. I'm looking at you My World, Get In The Ring, Back Off Bitch, Pretty Tied Up, alternate version of Don't Cry, and Coma.

I actually like this song a lot.

    Guns and roses
    "Pretty Tied Up"

I know this chick she lives down on Melrose
She ain't satisfied without some pain
Friday night is goin' up inside her...again
    Well crack the whip
'Cause that bitch is just insane
    I'm serious

    She's pretty tied up
    Hangin' upside down
    She's pretty tied up
    An you can ride her
    She's pretty tied up
    Hangin' upside down
I can't tell you she's the right one
    Oh no,oh no,oh no
Once there was this rock n' roll band rollin' on the streets
Time went by and it became a joke
We just needed more and more fulfilling- Uh-huh
Time went by and it all went up in smoke
    But check it out

    She's pretty tied up
    Hangin' upside down
    She's pretty tied up
    An you can ride her
    She's pretty tied up
    Hangin' upside down
    Ohh I can't tell you she's the
    right one
    Oh no,oh no,oh no
Once you made that money it costs more now
It might cost a lot more than you'd think
I just found a million dollars
    That someone forgot
It's days like this that push me o'er the brinks
    Cool and stressing
    (pronounced:Kool ranch dres'ing)

    She's pretty tied up
    Hangin' upside down
    She's pretty tied up
    An you can ride her
    She's pretty tied up
    Hangin' upside down
    And I can't tell you she's the
    right one
    Oh she's the right one...[etc.]

(But I can tell you a thing or two
    'Bout somethin' else
If you really wanna know-Know what
    I'm sayin')

Wow Coma is terrible? I consider that to be one of my favorites. Everypne always says that if they cut it down to one album it would be great but you can ask a million people to cut it down and you'd get a million different results. I'll take the two albums and have all my faves on there.

UYI I - Right Next Door to Hell, Dust N' Bones, You Ain't the First, Bad Obsession, November Rain, The Garden, Don't Damn Me, Bad Apples, Dead Horse, Coma
UYI II - Civil War, 14 Years, Yesterdays, KOHD, Get in the Ring, Shotgun Blues, Breakdown, So Fine, Estranged, You Could Be Mine…….. These are two of the best albums in music out there that have stood the test of time and will continue too….. Love Appetite just like everybody else, these two took it to another level.

Coma was amazing. Two great albums. Dude is a brilliant lyricist. To be honest his attitude makes him even more rock n roll.
