Matt's Drum Solo

So what brought on Matt's drum solos during E-Flo? Interesting that all of a sudden, boom, it's part of the song. I'm a big fan of it, Mike shreads for about 3 mins, then into Matt. Its a refreshing change to a song that is played every night and perhaps became a bit stale.

I agree. Was St. Paul 1 the first time for this? I was shocked when I seen/heard it...very nice to FLOW into that after Mike's finished burning my face off.

Yep, Cincy too. I was listening, and all of a sudden "Is that really a Matt solo? - wow". I couldn't believe it

Oh yeah, I was so excited to hear Matt's solo(s) at Summerfest. I'm a drummer so I was totally into it. My husband and I were actually discussing it the next day and how AWESOME it sounded to hear him just rock out like that. Bravo, Matt. Bravo!
  • I think it started to evolve into the song towards the end of the canadian tour... by the south american tour it popped up in a more true form, and now I guess it has peaked.

Matt's solo from the 2nd Denver show is great, its funny how for many years we all waited for Mike's solo during E-Flo, now I find myself not paying too much about Mike's solo, anticipating Matt's.

Plus, Stone needs to wait a bit longer before he starts up the main riff, give Matt some more solo time. :)

Just heard Matt's solo from the Vegas show, best one so far. He continues to top himself show after show.

Don't know if I'd call it a full blown solo, but there was definitely a serious emphasis on the drums that sounded like it was the precursor to a solo at Camden II during E-Flow.

Its not a full solo ala Lars Ulrich from Metallica, but Matt's version does last about 30-40 secs and everyone else ceases to play.

I have some Matt solos from early Soundgarden shows, and they blow me away. Downloading some Evenflow as we speak ...

I don't know about any of the others, I was just talking strictly about the one at Camden II. If I remember correctly (I can't believe I still haven't bought the boot) there is still some other music going on at the same time, but theres just a really long fill, or emphasis on the drums, but not like a real solo.

Same thing at East Rutherford 1 - it was like the beginnings of a solo after Mike finished but it didn't last long. It was either a very long fill or a very short solo.

    Has it gotten longer?

Vegas was the first time everyone else stopped playing, all you could hear was the crowd screaming while Matt was beating his drumkit to death.

  • Last night at the Forum's solo was sick. The crowd really dug it and showed Matt a ton of appreciation.
    Bring on night two!

Thats awesome, would have loved/ would love to hear Matt break into a solo in any song but, especially with all the energy, Evenflow would be hot!

Does anything think this will be a temporary thing or that from now on, all live sessions of "Even Flow" will have Matt's solo? I think it will only be this tour, it seems to be a spur of the moment thing.
