It's everywhere and it's contagious. In light of the waves of horrible things going on it the world, more than ever this is a good time to focus on the positive things good people do. I'm not saying we should regress to the point of being blind to the dark side, but these days, seeing the dark side is easy. Anybody can do that. It seems like it takes more effort to see the good things and kindnesses that abound.

I got to meet for the first time a very cool forum member today( ) , had a total stranger help prevent my car from being vandalized, gave and received hugs, had strangers smile at me and visa versa, was given an energy efficient dish washer for our home and this evening took my God-children's folks out to dinner for their dad's birthday.

Maybe some others her have had or seen good things happen that bring some light into the world.

I agree with you, Brian; it is important to remember that there are good people around. Soon after the bombings, I saw Patton Oswalt posted this. If it has been posted here before, I apologize for the repeat:

    Boston. Fucking horrible.

I remember, when 9/11 went down, my reaction was, "Well, I've had it with humanity."

But I was wrong. I don't know what's going to be revealed to be behind all of this mayhem -- one human insect or a poisonous mass of broken sociopaths.

But here's what I DO know. If it's one person or a HUNDRED people, that number is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population on this planet. You watch the videos of the carnage and there are people running TOWARDS the destruction to help out. (Thanks FAKE Gallery founder and owner Paul Kozlowski for pointing this out to me). This is a giant planet and we're lucky to live on it but there are prices and penalties incurred for the daily miracle of existence. One of them is, every once in a while, the wiring of a tiny sliver of the species gets snarled and they're pointed towards darkness.

But the vast majority stands against that darkness and, like white blood cells attacking a virus, they dilute and weaken and eventually wash away the evildoers and, more importantly, the damage they wreak. This is beyond religion or creed or nation. We would not be here if humanity were inherently evil. We'd have eaten ourselves alive long ago.

So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, "The good outnumber you, and we always will."

Well back in January after dropping off the kids at school I hurried off looking for a gas station with the cheapest price on Okeechobee Blvd. Well I ran out of gas but I was able to cruise into a gas station, at that moment cheap gas was not a priority. Problem was I was too far from the pump to put any gas in my truck. So a lady taking her kids or grand kids to school came over without me asking offered to push my truck up a grade to the pump. Well she tried several times but my truck was too much for her Toyota.

So she then goes into her trunk and gets an 5 gallon anti freeze bottle and gives it to me to put the gas in. Well she had to leave, I offered her money she said no, so I happen to have some coupon books I was selling for my daughters swim team. They are for one year and cost $20 each I gave her 2 and told her thank you maybe 10 times at least.

I gassed up and left the station thinking man how is it sometimes some people will just go out of their way to help other people. Then it hit me I've done the very same to unknown folks on several other occasions so it all evens out in the end I gather.

Yes, especially when we open the doors to more good Karma!

They say we create what we think or visualize. I used to believe this idea was a bit too airy fairy- too metaphysical for my way of thinking- but someone suggested I think of it more pragmatically. They suggested that if I think about what I want to have happen my brain will be more focused on looking for opportunities to show up and will take notice of life's little clues that might go unnoticed otherwise. So if more people started wanting, thinking and visualizing better things for our world- more peace, a healthier planet, more justice- that sort of thing- more of that kind of thing would happen. Seeing this in practical terms has been very helpful. Maybe this is the kind of movement we would do well to foster.

Here in North Texas we've seen an outpouring of care and kindness for the people of West, a small farming community affected by an enormous explosion earlier in the week. So many people showed up to volunteer and donate items that they've had to ask people to hold off for a little while! People opened their homes and took in families left homeless. Because 2 schools were left destroyed or heavily damaged, a nearby school district offered the use of one of their schools. Other school districts loaned temporary buildings, desks, and other supplies. It's been a terrible week in this country but I've seen so many reminders of the goodness of people.

Thanks for starting this thread, Brian.

I'm so glad to hear Texans taking care of each other like we always have. Last I read there are 60 people that are still missing. The Boston thing overshadowed this tragedy. They are completely different types of tragedies and I'm not saying that either one was more horrific than the other.

Last week a Pearl Jam member sent me a PM out of the blue. Wanted to send me something to spread good vibes. I gave them my address. They shipped it and I mailed some coffee back. I think their house got flooded during that flood disaster. :o

I tracked the package and It think it's floating somewhere by my package.

I meet the best people on this forum.

Karma is so weird. I was mailing a package a few days ago and I was short one penny. And they were closing that minute. I was about to dig around in my car. As I went to leave I saw a penny on the floor, right by the door?

It's true! That's why if we merely focused on the positive, we'd see more positive in the world. It's like the the Thoreau quote: "It's not what we look at that matters, it's what we see".

Last night I had a dream about Richie Havens who, as most of you know, died a few days ago. In the dream, Richie was taking care of an older friend who had a grave illness. With great patience, he spend many long hours tending to his friend. The dream shifted to an interview in which someone asked Haven's how he managed to find the time and energy to give so much care for this person. Richie said, "By helping those around us, we acknowledge peace and freedom and keep them alive".

R.I.P. Richie Havens. Thank you for your vision.

But only if he wanted too. So sad for Silas.

I got this email right before I read your post.

    "Dear Stacy,

The loggerhead sea turtle was once a thriving species, discovered often throughout all of the world's oceans. They were so common that fishermen would accidentally catch the turtles in nets, killing them inadvertently on a hunt for smaller fish.

That "accidental" death toll has now depleted 90% of the North Pacific loggerhead sea turtle's population. Despite this dramatic decline in the population, hundreds of turtles are still caught in Mexico's nets and left to die the same way every year.

Tell President Peña Nieto that these loggerheads are in dire need of a sanctuary before they are wiped out completely. Mexico needs new fishing regulations that don't allow for "accidental" turtle murders on a massive scale.

Now that nine in ten turtles have had their nests destroyed, let's give the next generation a place to call home.

    Great thread.
On top of all the negative threads, we, including myself, can become disrespectful to each other when I know we’d be cool if we met at a show and shared the PJ love. Reminds me of Gorge show, 103 degrees, and fellow fans misting water on others to cool them down

Anyone hear about the guy that wrapped the girl in a blanket and drove her straight to the hospital? They were there before the staff even knew of the event. She is calling him her hero. Good story.
