metal rusts as you've been gone

the horizon is blue with
birds suffocating and i hear humming
innocence

i held my hand out to feed them all
and they all exclaimed
can't you see, we are dying

today

the ocean is blue with
long goodbyes and if i squint hard enough
i can see the speck of you

like dust in the light
reflecting but the smoke in my lungs
turns your name black

today

i went out to the beach this morning and looked out to see the rising sun illuminating a giant frown
I knew it all along, see?
