DHS buys 7000 assault rifles, as 'personal defense weapons'

DHS and its components have a requirement for a 5.56x45mm NATO, select-fire firearm suitable for personal defense use in close quarters and / or when maximum concealment is required.]

and
The scope of this contract is to provide a total of up to 7,000 5.56x45mm North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) personal defense weapons (PDW) throughout the life of this contract to numerous Department of Homeland Security components.

Hey.
Johnny America, you can't be trusted with a SEMI-Auto, but TRUST us with 7,000 FULL AUTO ASSAULT RIFLES ON YOUR STREETS. We're keeping you safe!

Actual Contract Here Scroll down, and download "section C", it's in plain black and white ink in the very first sentence in the very first paragraph on the page.

Story below from NaturalNews.Com

DHS buys 7000 full-auto assault rifles, calls them 'personal defense weapons'

(NaturalNews) In yet another huge blow to the rhetoric and narrative of the Obama administration and its desire to disarm the American public, a DHS bid has been uncovered (see documents below) showing that the Department of Homeland Security recently put out an offer to purchase 7,000 full-auto "assault weapons" to be used domestically, inside the USA.

Keep in mind that President Obama is on the record saying, "AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not in the hands of criminals; that they belong on the battlefield of war, not on the streets of our cities."

But it seems he really means they don't belong on the streets of our cities unless they are in the hands of homeland security enforcers, in which case they can be FULL-AUTO assault weapons.

The DHS bid for 7,000 full-auto assault weapons is found by clicking here. The original credit for discovering this goes, to my best knowledge, to Awr Hawkins at Breitbart.com.

In the hands of the government, they're called "Personal Defense Weapons"

The juiciest part of this bid is the use of the phrase "Personal Defense Weapons" to describe the full-auto AR-15s being purchased by DHS.

Apparently, when YOU hold an AR-15, it's an "assault rifle." But magically, if you hand that same rifle to an armed government homeland security enforcer, it instantly transforms itself into a "personal defense weapon."

The request for bid actually says:

DHS and its components have a requirement for a 5.56x45mm NATO, select-fire firearm suitable for personal defense use in close quarters and / or when maximum concealment is required.

So there it is, right in black and white: DHS enforcers need full-auto AR-15s which are "suitable for personal defense in close quarters" and for "maximum concealment."

But if you or I make the same claim, suddenly we are branded lunatics by the fringe left and all the gun grabbers across America who apparently have no clue that their own government is arming up like never before.

Senator Feinstein, the gun-grabbing Senator from California, says she wants to take all the guns from all Americans. "Mr. and Mrs. America, turn 'em all in," she says on the record. But while Mr. and Mrs. America are turning in their guns, 'roid-head DHS goons are arming to the teeth with full-auto assault rifles.

This is all on top of the 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition the U.S. government has already stockpiled, as was discovered last year. What kind of government wants to domestically stockpile ammo and full-auto weapons, putting them in the hands of domestic agents who have nothing whatsoever to do with overseas wars? Well, the kind of government that plans to NEED 1.6 billion rounds of ammo and full-auto assault weapons, of course.

I saw that too. These are not AR's that they bought, AR's are built semi-auto only. These are M-16's or M4's more likely. "Personal" defense weapons that are selectable fire including FULL AUTO, yet my semi-auto only AR-15's are "assault rifles".

    Government hypocrisy knows no bounds.

What do they have to be so afraid of? Some rednecks that like to hunt?

    Sersiously? :fp:
You can't possibly be that stupid :nono:

    This is apples and oranges

You will find little or no complaint from those who don't see the need for the average American to own a semi-auto assault weapon about DHS buying full auto for its staff.

And no real hunter hunts with an AR-15
    :corn:

    Okay.
Who is Homeland Security intending to blanket spray with 30 round magazines and god-knows-what-fire-rate weapons?

This starts getting a little dicey for the average liberal, i'm guessing.

They are either forced to say something that wrecks their cause outright like:
"duh, illegal immigrants, or drugs lords coming over our ... uh ... totally unenforced southern border."

    or
something totally "looney tunes" by their own assertions, like:
"duh. the Chinese army, when they come with their ground invasion to secure collateral on their massive pile of worthless treasury bills that they have been buying for years."

    or
something even less explicable with liberal logic, like:
"duh. They need these fully automatic machine guns to mow down rebelling Americans when the shit hits the fan, and people get pissed off at the government."

What of ANY of those scenarios makes sense to anyone of the "enlightened" folks on this board?

The ONLY possible excuse i can think of coming from folks around here for why DHS should need MACHINE GUNS is "in case of a natural disaster, or some huge emergency. They need them to protect the general public from looters and rioters and what not."

Now ask yourself, what scenario do you ever see DHS, in a natural disaster or emergency situation, needing to open up with MACHINE GUNS set to FULL AUTO spraying and praying on a crowd of people?

I thought using Liberal Logic you needed LESS THAN TEN BULLETS (in a magazine) for "SELF DEFENSE" against a "perp". How many "perps" do they plan on pray-and-spraying at once?
    ???
If I was to smile and I held out my hand

    :corn:

and no real american thinks the 2nd Amendment is for hunting.
Even though our President just came out and said he "respects the tradition of hunting" in this country. (you know, after his, as he assures us - quite regular - skeet shooting spectacle as of late)

The irony here is hilarious. Have you ever asked yourself similar questions?

In the same fashion, what scenarios can you describe that justify someone owning such a gun?

Is this one of the scenarios you think are really real? The one where the government meets in hooded cloaks in secret and devises a plan to disarm the citizens of assault rifles so that they can attack them and enslave them?

    I can't own such a gun.
    That's foregone.

The intent here is to show that while the government is clamping down on your right to own ANY type of reasonable DEFENSE AGAINST SUCH WEAPONS
(ie. I can NOT own a machine gun. they already TOOK those from us. but i SHOULD be able to own a semi-auto in defense of government tyranny. Thats not irony. thats not crackpot. THATS WHY THE AMENDMENT WAS WRITTEN.)

THEY THEMSELVES ARE BUSY STOCKING UP ON MUCH STRONGER WEAPONS.

    Why?

You are answering my question with (what you perceive as a quite) humorous questions in rhetort.
Yet you fail to answer the question in earnest.
Why does Department of Homeland Security need FULL AUTO MACHINE GUNS?

Who are they worried they need to mow down?
Why do you need to laugh at me for asking that question?

I don't find that funny, or facepalm worthy.
it is in the constitution because legitimate and highly intelligent men were worried about it.
its something that can happen over a long period of time. One of the great themes of great conspiracies is "gradualism". Have you ever heard the phrase "a descent in to tyranny". Thats what happens. You slowly DECEND in to tyranny. First people have to be convinced to willingly give up their most precious rights. Then after their most precious rights are gone, they can be pressured in to giving up more. After that, they have but little say in the matter.

Sorry... please check again. The U.S. Coast Guard as well as the U.S. Secret Service fall under the umbrella of the Dept. of Homeland Security. And don't forget the U.S. Border Patrol. All of those agencies already have access to military weapons (check out the .50 cal at the bow of Coast Guard interceptors).

The U.S. Secret Service are armed with H&K MP5s th?id=H.4642757462328801&pid=15.1
    and FN P90s th?id=H.4735313958077601&pid=15.1

Here is part of the U.S. Border Patrol's arsenal:
"Border Patrol Agents also commonly carry the .223 caliber M4 Carbine and the H&K UMP .40 caliber submachine gun. The .308 caliber M14 rifle is used for mostly ceremonial purposes and by BORTAC in special situations."

I understand the desire to spread irrational fear that the TSA agents at the airport will now be armed with M-16s and strip searching us at gunpoint... but, sorry, that is not the case. Just because you want to pretend something is true, doesn't mean it's true.

    Apology accepted.

The writing is on the wall and has been for awhile......there are people on here that do not see America as unique that makes us better than other Governments out there......yet if we are not unique that means we can fall like the other governments out there....So I do not understand that you can find it so hard to believe that this country COULD be taken over.......
Why is this administration stocking up on hollow point bullets that have been “illegal in international warfare since 1899.”

one has to wonder if we aren't approaching the well-trained paramilitary national police force mentioned by Obama?
Jan. 1, 2012 Congress declared America a battlefield with the passage of the NDAA 2012.
In a battlefield you have no rights. The government stepped across the line of departure with that act, 96 senators voted for the “battlefield” designation.
The National Defense Authorization Act, or S. 1867, isn’t a slap in the face to our Constitution – it’s the killing blow.
The bill’s text, in its infinite vagaries and self-contradictions, subtly allows the government to arrest American citizens on American soil and hold them indefinitely and without trial or any form of due process – all on the pretense of being an amorphously-defined “enemy combatant”. Authored by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz) and Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich), the bill was passed in the Senate 93-7 on Dec. 1st without amendment.

a prudent person should wonder if something nefarious is afoot.

Not entirely relevant to the current conversation, but are you sure that's right? Really odd that something that's illegal in modern warfare is purchasable at my local WalMart.

The Hague Convention of 1899, Declaration III, prohibited the use in international warfare of bullets that easily expand or flatten in the body.[3] This is often incorrectly believed to be prohibited in the Geneva Conventions, but it significantly predates those conventions, and is in fact a continuance of the St. Petersburg Declaration of 1868, which banned exploding projectiles of less than 400 grams, as well as weapons designed to aggravate injured soldiers or make their death inevitable. NATO members do not use small arms ammunition that is prohibited by the Hague Convention.

Despite the ban on military use, hollow-point bullets are one of the most common types of civilian and police ammunition,[citation needed] due largely to the reduced risk of bystanders being hit by over-penetrating or ricocheted bullets, and the increased speed of incapacitation.

In many jurisdictions, even ones such as the United Kingdom, where expanding ammunition is generally prohibited, it is illegal to hunt certain types of game with ammunition that does not expand.[4][5] Some target ranges forbid full metal jacket ammunition, due to its greater tendency to damage metal targets and backstops.[6]

Thanks, bigdvs. New info for me.

Odd again to see the blurb mention FMJ being prohibited at some firing ranges -- I've never been to one that allowed anything else, due to the risk of lead exposure in semi-jacketed rounds.
