Being a successful rock singer sure can have its financial advantages. Now, thanks to CelebrityNetWorth.com, we can see just how well-off many of the rock world’s most famous vocalists are. The website has published a list of the “Richest Lead Singers in the World.” Unsurprisingly, the star at the top of the tally is Beatles legend Paul McCartney, who has amassed an estimated net worth of $800 million. Sitting comfortably in the #2 spot is U2‘s Bono who’s wealthy to the tune of $600 million.
Landing in third place on the list is Jimmy Buffett with a $400 million fortune, followed by Elton John at #4 with $320 million. The Rolling Stones‘ Mick Jagger is at #5 with $305 million. Ex-Police frontman Sting sits at #6 with $290 million and Phil Collins comes in at #7 with $250 million.
CelebrityNetWorth.com says it compiled its list by gathering information from publicly available sources about artists’ “salaries, real estate holdings, divorces, record sales, royalties and endorsements.” The website’s net worth figures are determined by a formula that takes into account “taxes, manager’s fees, agents’ fees and lifestyle.”

The list appears to stick to rock and singers who fronted a prominent band for at least some point. Note also no hip hop, pop, etc. I would imagine Jay-Z, Eminem, Justin Timberlake, Usher, Michael Buble et al. would crack that list.
I just had to rethink that trying to figure out if Madonna and BS were really rock music more so Madonna than BS.
Oh don't forget to add the infamous Justin Beiber to your list.
Peace

Yes, they are guessing. They say as much in their explanation of how they came to these numbers -- publicly available records, the individual's lifestyle. Given that most people on these boards think Ed's entire wardrobe could fit in a medium-sized suitcase and was purchased at Goodwill, these are at best ballpark numbers. The McCartney number's probably pretty accurate. Bono was one of the investors in Facebook. Everyone else -- "this is only a guess."
Britney Spears -- I doubt her net worth is very high. She will be the subject of a "VH1: Behind the Music" special double feature someday.
They seem to stick to the term "rock and roll" better than the Hall of Fame
All of those guys tour their asses off and/or have huge selling albums.
I think Plant sold some of his Zeppelin related rights back in the 80s.
And yes these are guesses, but most seem fairly plausible to me. Alot of this info comes out in divorces, real estate deals and other means. If it was just popularity contest there are lead singers that would be on there way before EV.
Nothing real shocking but I think some other names name I might've expected....Chris Martin, John Fogerty, Greg Allman, Don Henley, Stevie Nicks, Maynard James Keenan, Neil Young, Thom Yorke, Geddy Lee, Tom Petty, Roger Daltrey
6. Sting: $290 million-guess I never realized how big the Police were
8. Dave Matthews: $250 million-shows what relentless touring will get you
15. Axl Rose: $150 million- Done much better with his money than I would've guessed
26. Ozzy Osbourne: $90 million- figure he'd be higher, guess he hasn't written a ton of tunes he's been a part of
29. Bob Dylan: $80 million- I'd think he'd practically have more than this just from people covering his tunes, and he tours quite a bit
