Mom given bill to clean street after son killed by illegal immigrant driving drunk

GREENVILLE, SC – A grieving mother told a South Carolina court she was slapped with several bills, including one to clean the street after her son was killed by a drunken driver last year.
Loretta Robinson spoke on June 19 of the emotional and financial toll her son Justin Walker's death had on her as the driver Anna Gonzales, who is an illegal immigrant, pleaded guilty in the case.
Robinson told the judge she has been unable to work due to the emotional impact of her son's death, and can't pay the bills she keeps receiving from the accident even though her son was not at fault, WYFF reports.
"I had to pay to have the vehicle towed," she said according to WYFF. "I had to pay for the vehicle removed and to clean up the street from Justin's blood on the ground."
Robinson said the $50 bill to clean the street stung the most.
"First of all, having to open the mail and look at the charge to the deceased, Justin Darryl Walker -- the deceased! It's just a hard thing to deal with in the context of your child," she said according to WYFF.
Robinson says she doesn't expect to get any money from Gonzales. The state's victim assistance fund has provided some money, but it primarily covers funeral, medical and counseling expenses.
Gonzales, an illegal immigrant who didn't have a South Carolina driver's license, was sentenced to 17 years in prison.

But how the hell does this happen? The folks sending out these invoices don't put an iota of forethought into what they're doing?
"Hey Fred...street's gotta be cleaned of that blood! Who's paying?"
"Umm, I dunno, Joe...let's send it to the kid's mother and see how it goes."
That poor mom.
I'd gladly pay the $50 on her behalf.

I think in these cases, the taxpayer should pick up the tab...
That said, the bill was likely for cleaning up a lot more than just the blood. I'll be they emphasized that part for the dramatics. I still don't think the citizen should receive a bill like that, though. It just shows how poorly the government is run.

Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.
Take note that it's in South Carolina.

i have no problem with the offending party getting billed, but to bill the victims parents? i wouldn't pay it, i wouldn't have paid to tow the car. how are these her bills?
Sad story..
There's always one, in this thread it's you!

Person is dead.
Mom sent bill.
Killer shouldn't have been here.
Other than that find whatever link suits you. I used to try to go out of my way to find a source non-Fox because people here would always say something about the link instead of the story, but I don't feel like wasting my time.
I'm a Ron Paul supporter, do you actually think I fall for the whole mass media scam?
just a guess...lots of cities are facing revenue shortfalls, thus cut services...with no money to pay these sort of bills...the city sends the bill to the citizen...
i have no problem with the city sending a bill...although that can be arugued...but shouldn't the bill go to the person that caused the issue? not the victim? :?:
original story link.
what I found was Fox lifted verbattim the text of the article with the execption of the last few sentences and failed overtly credit the TV channel they lifted it from other than providing a link AT THE BOTTOM saying for more from xxx.
Byline seems to suggest it originated FROM fox AT THE TOP.

I would think so...
not sure of the rational for sending the bill to the victim....
do we know if a bill was sent to the driver....? perhaps they both got bills splitting the cost...?
