What's has happened to us?

I remember a time when we were anti materlistic and anti corporate. Now we, as fans, have
produced our own corporate materlistic machine. We buy posters for 425 dollars on eBay, we buy
backpacks that are listed on eBay for 500% over retail! Might not be u but it's the guy next to you at shows
or in front of you. But he is a part of us! Now it's tickets. Membership had its privileges, a corporate slogan.
HAD it's priviledges! Now club members who have been members for decades are buying tix with the
GP pool. That's crazy! But this new 10c, you know the ones who flip merch and go to shows to
come on here to compare, de-value and over analyze someones experience has
changed the culture and foundation of which was once an appreciative group who was simply satisfied for getting the shot at one show. That's when membership had its priviledges!!!
Here's an idea for complainers, haters and flippers I purpose we add the back porch as a
an option to the forum! (BTW I am a very satisfied 10c member and appreciate all the work
they have done to make my experiences AWESOME!!)

Peace, Love and Warm Holiday Wishes!!

  • "we fans" are not "one" group.

That are rich colectors who want's posters and sealed vinyl, there are people who want vinyl to spin it but can't afford it and there are people who just download Ten and that's enough.

We are not one entity. But we all want concert tickets.

I am relatively new here - only a few months now - and since being here - I have been impressed with some things and depressed with others. So far 10C has impressed me - to me at least it seems like they're trying their best to help those that didn't get the tickets they wanted - but moreso - some of the people I've met here already - and the lengths they go to - to ensure you feel welcome - and - help you when you need it. Absolutely beautiful. Some of the complaining has depressed me - as well as the recent ticket fiasco (hoping I never have to endure it) - but a wise man on here already told me to just have fun on here - just worry about what it is I want to worry about - and forget the rest, just window dressing. For the most part - I think we are all here because of the music - we can't let the few disrupt our interest - haters gonna hate - playas gonna play - their kind exist in every populus - nothing we can do. Hopeful for 20 more years of great music - and a long wonderful membership with the 10C.

  • Honestly, the way Pearl Jam does business seems to perpetuate this insanity. I honestly don't get it. If you make things limited edition you kind of force this black market because the demand is greater then the supply. Why can't people get the PJ20 soundtrack on vinyl or the blue-ray special edition? People still want them and they could make more money so why aren't they making more? Why not release all the records on vinyl since there is a demand? Where is the logic in not giving fans what they want so that they have to over pay on ebay and they don't get anymore money for it? Most other bands don't do business this way.

As far as tickets, they really don't play enough shows a year to help keep costs to fans down. I am not sure I can fault them for this. If they only want to play short tours every year, it's their choice. But that means more fans are fighting for the same tickets because they have less choices in which shows they can see.

I don't know what you mean, I understand what you say about becoming greedy and materialistic, or over greedy and over materialistic, but I agree with the guy who says we are not a group, one entity...

I am in the 10C for the vinyl, xmas single and whichever other may appear, tickets as well, but tickets are not the main reason, not my priority, since in 20 years the band came twice to my country, being the first one 6 years ago, and the last one a month ago...

I agree with you that the guy next to you on a concert might be a flipper, so be it, but I don't think I may find a flipper among the 40K who attended any of the Buenos Aires shows, in fact, I don't suscribe to the idea the flippers are fans, they may be, or at least they like PJ, but they are not fans per se, they don't stream PJ radio or take part in the forum, and 50, 40 and especially 20 bucks is very little investment a year to get the chance to have access to stuff they can flip and get a huge profit from it, and weren't it for flippers, traders or the like who list vinyl all over the web, many of us wouldn't get the missing item in our collections...

So I am not different from who I was when I first joined the 10C in 98, and when I came back in 2006, I'm still longing for vinyl, waiting for them to be released, I purchased dvd's randomly, the only one I got at the tieme of release was PJ20, and I don't have them all, and I passed on the backpack, I don't hike, nor trek neither go camping, so I don't need that backpack, and vans kicks were as ugly as they get, and I'm not into posters either, I would have liked to have one from last Buenos Aires show, but they were sold out, and when they told me the price I thought it was ok, I was not going to spend that kind of money on a poster, needless to say I won't spend those prices on the bay for one...
... I am not in the business of being liked anymore ...

The idea of supply and demand is one of truth and limited shows does cause a def
hype! So do we think this is some type of pre meditated push by our 10c brotheren? For clearity
purposes I own two posters and been to several shows. I am truly happy, however I feel a lot folks
are falling victim to those in which we share the porch with!!!

This is rather strange, considering that they got into the bootlegs to ensure that fans wouldn't get ripped off on poor quality products... I'm not so bothered about the bitching about the PJ20 DVD/Blu-ray, the content on the 2nd disc is on iTunes and the movie is just about everywhere. However, the vinyl shortages, I don't get at all.

I get the feeling that being their own label gives them a lot less financial leeway than it would have in the Epic/Sony years.

Vinyl (opened or unopened) is just as materialistic as the next thing
