  • Not a bigger travesty then Rush. Every musician since Moving Pictures has been influenced by Rush. The Cult was just an above average band.

The Cult have two songs in their catalog.

One called Nirvana and one called Soul Asylum.

I would gather they had more influence then you think. Just based on these two massive coincidences.

Unless, of course, these are truly coincidences.

    Rush is very deserving too.

I always thought Nirvana was a pretty generic name. I highly doubt that Kurt and Dave Pirner were influenced by the Cult. In fact, Soul Asylum was a band 6 years before the Cult released that song.

    Maybe they stole it then?

I read a quote from Kurt the other day where he explained their name: "In Webster's terms, "nirvana" means freedom from pain, suffering and the extermnal world, and that's pretty close to my definition of punk rock"

I used to like The Cult back in the day, not sure if their HOF material though (even though there are worse bands than them already in there!)

Does anyone like Rush outside of their circle of fanatics?

Their "circle of fanatics" is massive. And to be fair, going into the HOF shouldnt necessarily be about being liked - talent should be a factor - and I dont think anyone, even non-Rush fans, would argue that they aren't talented enough.

And sales? Well they are third for most consecutive gold albums in history . . . behind the Beatles and the Stones

Modern day yes, but they held a significant impact on pop culture for half a decade, which is what the R&RHOF is all about. And personally, I wouldn't care if PJ got in or not only on the basis that I'm an uber fan.

I'm not a fanatic, never gone out of my city to see them, but they're a great great band.

  • Amazing band that really don't get their due. Highly influential too. Certainly deserving of induction but will probably go unrecognised.
