i stopped listening to commercial radio regularly in 2003 maybe. 2004. im a sucker for pop songs, so i will occasdionally turn on my local pop station and then the rock station as well, to see the popular songs of the day.

all in all, alternative music to me is pretty much dead. that term stopped meaning something when kurt died. i can appreciate the bands who write catchy tunes, thats something that is often overlooked in the debate over whats commercial and whats good. that takes some talent. but overall, im not really into breaking bejamin or nickelback, or three days grace or any of that.

as far as radio stations go, the only two worth checking out are KCRW in LA and then KEXP in seattle. thats it.

i find the term alt music so outdated its laughable. same with the grammy category of alternative music. when was the last alternative album released? 1994? 1995?

    btw- i agree with him

101.9 wrxp "the rock of new york" is also a good radio station. don't think i've ever heard nickleback on there.

Where did you guys hear this news?! This is the first I've heard of it!
This sucks, I've been listening to this station since I was 13 years old. Yeah, they play the same crap over and over, but they occasionally play some real gems. And I love Electra's last letter game. Any details on when this is happening? Their website doesn't mention anything...

I'm pretty sure the Loop is staying as is. I feel like the Loop has gone down a bit lately though...paying garbage like Nickelback, Bon Jovi, etc.. Looks like it will be down to XRT and the drive for me.

XRT is the only station worth listening to in chicago... real DJs actually choosing the songs

Q101 was just always playing pseudo metal goth tween bullshit

    good riddance

i heard "the loop" is gone too... poor loop rock girls... all those breasts and no where to flaunt them :(

Well I like q101 quite a bit. I grew up listening to it and have been listening to it since Jr. high. I'm really going to miss it. It still plays a lot of the music I grew up with, lots of '90's alternative including PJ of course. It is the one terrestrial radio station I still listen to. Last letter game so long. Seriously I am really bummed out

While it is great to hear a lot of the 90s alternative music we grew up on played on Q101, all of the new music they play is pretty awful. They should have just went to an all 90s format...

Check out WFUV online - it's a NYC Station though as a former Chicagoite its pretty awesome. Eclectic.

Hopefully WXRT will remain - its rather a Chicago Institution. There's always Loyola's Station - when ya can get it tuned in - can't remember the numbers. Sorry for the Q101 loss ...

Wow most of what they're playing today are gems! Maybe if they had stuck with this kind of stuff all the time instead of playing Disturbed all the time they wouldn't be going away. Still a bummer though, i was a huge fan in the '90s. Kind of leaves a huge gap in the market...

Yeah, it has been pretty nice the last few days with them playing mostly classic stuff. I said earlier in this thread they should have just made it an all 90s station. Like you said...hearing the new Disturbed or Avenged Sevenfold song just doesn't do it for most people. It still does suck though...Q101 is the reason that I got so into music when I was 13-14. Crazy.

i was listening yesterday on the way in and it sounded like something new was in the works.

i read last week that they were bleeding money pretty bad. the former owner is going to take a bath on these stations based on what they bought them for and what they are selling them for.

Yeah, it does sound like Sherman and Tingle are goin to do something....they said they'll start doing some podcasts on their website. We'll see...
