It’s not that she didn‘t like clothes, it’s that she wore a gown of madness.

She dances with her heartbeat in her hand
Raising her arms with open palms
She feeds the sky a miracle
It makes sense to offer herself like that
To feel her mortality, in everything she touches
There’s no sacrifice in a gift.

She drinks daylight to help her find her way
To make shapes out of the shadows she spat out
from when she prayed like a whore
to taste forgiveness
But God won’t hear her there
There’s no gift in sacrifice.

So she cradles the night for a view darker than herself
She swallows the rhythm from her hips to be more like… herself
She licks the grace from her lips
and sits on the back of words like… ‘I love you’
And rides them home.
