Looks good. Sometimes movie makers have to make movies and take liberties to make them entertaining.

I think the retrospective consensus is that the early 00's A's were great because of 3 things: Hudson, Mulder & Zito. It's amusing that this fact is shrouded behind the Moneyball curtain.

I certainly think those three were a huge part of their success but you can't deny that Beane and the A's changed the way front offices think and operate.

Yeah. Like my bro-in-law in CO after they traded Ubaldo was really defending it. Saying "we got all their best pitching prospects." I have a feeling he's right.

No doubt. I think I will be proven wrong in my campaigning for the Yanks to trade for him.

No, just despise them. It's more fun.
  • I'm not a GM and really have no idea how to construct a baseball team, but I can't understand why Seattle traded Doug Fister with 4 years to go until his free agency. Isn't that precisely the type of player a team needs to keep? A solid major league starting pitcher who works for cheap and is under control? The Mariners are going to be bad for a long time, I have to believe.

Yeah, one would think. I don't even know what they got in return but one would think it makes sense to keep him. I will say, the Mariners have a lot more money that people think.

Now if we could get them to just trade Felix.

That guy makes very mysterious moves. Zito, Rowand, Huff...

He'll probably sign Beltran to a 7 year contract extension.

zito was an appeasement move - "look, we're doing something"......(dumb)

rowand was one of the better CF's at the time. I think he, andruw jones and and someone else good at the time all came up at the same time.

huff was a "thanks for last year" signing...and I really didn't have a problem with it.

I loved watching Rowand play, and he was definitely a fan favorite, but I was very happy (at the time) the Phillies didn't give him a big contract like that. There was no way that was going to end well.

  • Kershaw dropped his ERA to 2.30 and got the W despite the bullshit ejection last night.

Doc dropped his ERA to 2.34, pitched his first shutout, and clinched a playoff berth for the Phils with a 1-0 win (even got a hit while he was at it).

Clifton goes tonight. The CY race is awesome!

You should've seen Cliff Lee tonight. ;) Aside from that one pitch, of course.

Tigers have some good pitching too. And maybe a better bullpen.

How can you possibly make that claim? Just because Mattingly doesn't let him go out for the 9th as much Manuel does. Kershaw has thrown more innings that Lee and one less that Halladay and has a better ERA, lower WHIP, and more strike outs than both of them. Come one dude, because a manager doesn't run him out for the 9th makes Lee and Halladay better than him?
  • And I was gonna say - they made a convincing statement on Phils PGL - if Kershaw gets the triple crown, how do you NOT give it to him?

Lee and Halladay act as their own closers frequently, and a couple times they haven't quite finished it off (I think once each). But Kershaw doesn't act as a closer. His CG's were all at least with a lead of a few runs.

They all have basically the same amount of innings. Cliff & Roy tied for the lead and Clayton one back.

Also, when you adjust for park factors, I'd think Cliff & Roy would jump ahead in a few of those funky SABR stats.

That has nothing to do with Kershaw though. That's on Mattingly and Manuel. Halladay has a higher ERA+, Lee lower. Funny how SABR stats are important when they work in your favor, no?
