    R.I.P. Fernando Valenzuela

I just saw the news. I'm saddened by his passing on a couple of levels. First, because he was young (younger than I would have guessed). Secondly, of course, because he was just such a darned fine pitcher. And lastly, because the first good sale I ever made as a book seller was at a book fair a good number of years ago. I don't recall the name of the book, but it was a mass market (i.e. "pocket book") biography of Valenzuela that was dual language English/Spanish (not the kids book about him). It must be fairly rare as I cannot even find a photo of the book. And I'm almost certain I saw him pitch against the Giants in Candlestick at least once.

R.I.P. Fernando Valenzuela, one of the greats.
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

Ooh, good one! I’ll look that up. This will be a great series! Dodgers are close to home but I think Yanks got it tho, bullpen plus Stanton, Soto, Judge. Those are some big dudes who crush it!

I want to say Tommy John is one. I know he played for the Dodgers in 77/78. I think he hung on with the Yankees long enough to get to the 81 Series, but not sure.

Tommy John is one. He actually played long enough to return to the Yankees in the late 1980s.

also the reason some people hate it.

I don’t care for either stadium, especially looking at the poofy seats in NY or the dopes behind home plate in LA.

get it done, Evil Empire East.

Strawberry was injured with the Dodgers and was on the Yankees in 1996, 1999, also 1998 but he didn't play in that World Series because of colon cancer.

Great to see the excitement for this series!

After years of declining interest in baseball its nice to see this buzz and engagement!

I don't have a dog in the fight between the teams just hoping for a hard fought series with some memorable moments

As a very young man, maybe 12 or 13, I decided that since the Cubs suck, and may never win a World Series in my lifetime, I needed to pick another team to follow and cheer for. The decision was a no brainer, Go Yankees! It's real easy to follow a winning franchise.

That said. I really wouldn't mind if Ohtani won his 1st World Series ring.

Yeah, I knew he had two stints in NY, just didn't remember if his first stint was done by 81.
