There's a big difference between greenies and roids. Roids completely changed the record books. Look at the 50+ home run years and how it skyrocketed in the late 90s to early 2000s. Caffeine gives an edge, better physical therapy programs give an edge, protein shakes give an edge, roids changed the game.

I do, and I don't think they should be part of the game, but if baseball let it happen and it's the difference between making $1 million and $10 million or being a minor leaguer or a major leaguer and baseball was letting it happen, I'd damn sure be taking them.

I hear what you're saying, I just don't get the moral outrage. I wish they were never part of the game, but I don't fault a player for taking them for one second. And don't get me wrong, I tend to like clean players more and think their numbers are more impressive but I don't think anyone should be held out of the HOF for them.

2 home runs for Harper in 2 days. Yeah, this kid is going to be good.

I agree. spitballs and doctoring baseballs changed the game too. plenty of 'cheaters' have been inducted into the HOF

I'm surprised at how many of the others here are so lax about this. I think roids were way worse than anything else in the history of the game.

I would never take a drug like this and risk screwing up my body to make more money, and be labeled a cheater. I lost all respect for many players over the years.

If I was in the high levels of the minor leagues and thought roids would help me get to the show I would be popping and injecting anything and everything I thought would give me a better shot.

I think it's surprising that more playeres weren't juicing during the 90s/early 00's

They were the worst thing. Spitballs did not make the amount of 20 win seasons dramatically rise or ERA suddenly diminish, while roids resulted in home run records being shattered and the number of 50 home run seasons increased astronomicly.

Also, a cheating pitcher did not have every ball effected by a spitball, but every at bat was effected by steroid user. usage.

if you think steroids were the only reasons for the spike in HRs then you are naive. expansion, balls being more tightly wound, new parks being smaller, advances in training techniques, etc. sure juice had something to do with it, but it was far from the only reason. and ther is still no evidence that juice helps someone hit a baseball

also, pitchers were juicing too. wouldn't that make it harder for players to hit HRs?

people still hung up on the steroid era need to get over it.

But no one remembers the minor leaguers. We are talking about the biggest stars in the league taking them.

I wonder is Brady Anderson was on roids when he has his 50 home run year .

The accountants and financial advisors remember the minor leaguers. Shit. If I were on the cusp of making the majors why wouldn't I do it especially if I were on a two way contract.

Of course he was, but so what, baseball allowed it, the media and fans ignored it and fans showed up by the millions. When people talk about him they'll say "oh, he was on steroids" just like they say about Gaylord Perry "oh, he doctored the ball", then they'll move on.

SImply put, I'm not goingt o use the old cliche "it ruined the game for me," but I certainly lost a bit of interest in baseball once I heard all the roid controversy.

And to say that there's no proof that it helps you hit a baseball, might be true, but its just silly. How does a physical enhancement not help you? Roids make you bigger and faster -- easier to cheat.

a lot of hitting a baseball has to do with vision and flexibility, not how strong you are

We are talking about HRs. No one is saying these cheaters didn't have incredible talent to begin with.

it's all relative. getting bigger decreases your flexibility, which can actually retard your ability to hit a baseball
