Man, they made it pretty clear for you and yet you just keep repeating the same ol' shit. It's obvious we need to have auto insurance because there are other people at risk besides just the driver. This issue has been covered so many times it's now headache material.

thanks for joining in...I guess folks who don't have health insurance, and who get sick and run up huge bills, and those bills get "written off", and the cost gets put on those who do have insurance and can pay their bills doesn't really put people at risk...

    care for an assprin...?

I don't really understand this "written off" that you speak of. I got really sick 6 years ago and didn't have insurance. I got the best care and treatment anybody could ask for. When all was said and done the hospital called me up to set up a payment plan that would fit into my budget. I never heard of a hospital or doctor saying, eh, don't worry about it....we'll just write it off" . And i'm assuming if they did, it affected their credit in a big way.

I don't really know how this Obamacare is all going to work out. I feel it hasn't taken much affect yet (except for premiums going up) to really predict how it's going to affect anyone. But I don't believe our health care system, as it was, is as bad as Michael Moore tells you it is, or was.

I don't believe you when you claim to not understand the concept of "written off"...anyhoo, I wonder if you paid your bill with chickens...or lobster...? you know, that's a recent republican suggestion...

i would have offered to paint the hospital....but only the interior because painting outside in the elements is just going a little overboard in exchange for my health care...

I'm curious what part of Sicko you think is not true.

    good question...

Sicko is more about what other countries health systems are like and why can't ours be like theirs....

I was never a big Moore fan but that is a good documentary

Ontheedge, if you had not survived your sickness who would pay your bill?

Because many without insurance don't survive. Who do you think ends up paying for it?

They say about 40 millions people in the US don't have Health insurance previous to the bill. About 45,000 deaths occur each year because people don't have insurance(harvard medical study). This might sound a little harsh, but that is less than 1%. Lets not say many who don't have insurance dont survive. That is quite a bit of fearmongering right there.

And no one pays for it. Once someone dies *their debt is transferred to their estate. If they do not have an estate the debt collectors do not get any money.

but Mike...the losses that the health care providers realize is spread to the rest of us....they WILL make the profits they seek because they are bound to the shareholders

Their costs are set based on estimated losses....those are built in to everything you pay

"Many" is in the eye of the beholder, and 45,000 is (too) many to me.

How do you figure that no one pays for it when the debt collectors don't get any money? The hospitals don't get paid, so they pay for it - oftentimes with taxpayer money. Same with people whose medical bills drive them into bankruptcy (60% of whom HAD health insurance).

my point was more to the idea that everyone who doesn't have insurance is in grave danger of dying because of lack of access to care which is what the comment said to me. It is sad for sure, but it seems to be blowing things out of proportion.
also, bankruptcy doesn't = death. I personally know people who have had to file and it simply gives them a way to handle their debt. Sure it does damage to your credit report, but you can live with bad credit.
