There's an old rule that you never wear a band's shirt to their concerts. PJ fans seem to disregard this completely! Any particular reason? If you're at the show, why do you need to be wearing a PJ shirt? Just curious.

    Why wouldn't you wear one???

It is a "rule" I used to follow, and now I don't care. But to be honest: PJ is the only band whose shirts I wear to their shows. Everyone thought Jeremy Piven's "don't be that guy" line from PCU was just oh so witty and it has stuck around for years. Bah. I own like 20+ PJ shirts and I'll be damned if some overrated and overexposed comedy actor is going to influence my choice of shirts. What better place to sport your colors? Wear what you want!

My hubby wears his PJ shirt from Maui 1998 to most shows. Ed actually pointed to him and put his hand over his heart at one show we were at! So, I don't think the band hates fans wearing their shirts. ;)

I was wearing my Benaroya Hall shirt when I met Mike in Portland in '06. He looked at my shirt smiled and said "that was a great night" then signed my Avocado LP cover and posed for a picture with me.
  • Jeremy Piven? we're taking notes on how to be cool from a guy who almost killed himself eating sushi.
The first PJ show I ever went to, I didn't wear anything band related and I was almost the only person in line without some kind of PJ gear on... felt like I missed the memo or something.

What a stupid thread!! I wear my PJ shirt because I love the band and interacting with others who may be wearing a shirt unavailable to me, talk about the meaning ect. I have worn other shirts, like Hedrix and just a plain guitar but for real this is dumb. I haven't been to a concert yet where the majority wasn't wearing one of the bands shirts! Oh yeah and I forgot.... RULE?? who's your moms?

I love flannel. Especially for the weather on Saturday - too warm for a coat, too cool to walk around in a t-shirt. It's a very functional fabric. Love that shat.

Sure it's fine. :) The OP said he was just curious and people were discussing just fine and then someone made a comment that this was stupid but he meant not wearing a shirt, if you wanted to I believe, and then others said the thread was stupid but it just isn't and so on... It's just a discussion and could even be fun if it was turned that way. It's an opportunity, ya know? You saw the thread about a band member acknowledging a shirt at a show that brought back good memories...that was pretty cool I thought. :)

In the Pacific Northwest, they never really wear a fashion statement. I still wear flannel shirts in the fall and winter when it is cold outside.
I wasnt judging I swear! Just saying, I havent seen those in a WHILE. Where can you even buy them these days?
flannel and the whole "grunge" look is actually a trend right now.

this is not a rule. especially when it comes to Pearl Jam where the sense is that everyone should have the right to do whatever they want, not follow someone's made up rule. i love seeing everyone's past concert t's. i love seeing people wearing 10c t's. there are no rules when it comes to Pearl Jam, everyone has their own prerogative. even if you want to call the PJ community a "jamily", or a fan a "jamhead" or "jammer". i've never understood why people get bothered by these things. there are bigger issues to worry about in life. we need to stop prescribing rules of conduct for eachother and just let each other be.

  • I have heard of this BS rule before. Diehards usually wear the shirts-just gonna happen. Y not when we spend so much on them...
