I've been listening to this album a lot for the last couple weeks and this is a brilliant/phenomenal/outstanding/fantastic/great/any adjective you want to give it for this album. I've had it on repeat, listening over and over. This is one of the seminal albums of the '90s and one of the greatest albums ever made. It was a great period of music when it was released. Every time I listen, "Fell On Black Days" ends up being on repeat.
I hope to see Soundgarden live next time they tour. Can't wait for the new album next month!

It is my personal opinion that, if all you're taking into account is the quality of artistic creation from start to finish, then Superunknown is the greatest album of all time. I think many others feel the same but are too scared to say it! Bring in areas like impact on music, culture, commercial success etc then yes that changes things, but judging on pure quality of songs and an album as a whole? It is is a faultless masterpiece.0

Me too Newch91, I have had it on repeat in the van to and from work for weeks now. It must be the anticipation of the new SG album. It is a great record, the highlight for me is the trio in the middle of Spoonman,Limo Wreck and The Day I Tried To Live.0

Forgot to mention in the original post how fantastic Matt's playing is on this album. It's one of his best playing, from the opener "Let Me Drown" and the breakdown for his solo in "Spoonman." This is an album you just have to crank the volume up all the way, even if that means blowing out your speakers.Shows: 6.27.08 Hartford, CT/5.15.10 Hartford, CT/6.18.2011 Hartford, CT (EV Solo)/10.19.13 Brooklyn/10.25.13 Hartford

I agree with this. I remember buying this the day it came out. Took it over to a friend's house and nobody liked it. They wanted to listen to Kriss Kross instead.www.cluthelee.com0

their best imo, although the first 4 off badmotorfinger are untouchable.

Truly legendary Chris. I agree 100%. I am listening to Louder than Love now going through their short catalog. Sounds like on UltraMega and Louder that they are trying to find their signature sound. I think they nailed it on BadMotorFinger and absolutely topped themselves with Superunknown. They were at a creative peak at that point in their careers. They tried a little too hard on Down on the Upside. Trying to chill out the music a bit. Great album but not compared to Superunknown. Can't wait to hear King Animal. Sounds very promising. He who forgets will be destined to remember.

Hell yes they are.
Such a great record.
4th of July is an amazing song... that guitar... my God.
The abundance of odd time signatures, and unusual tunings just adds to the creativity that is within the album.
My favorite tracks on the record are: Let Me Drown (amazing drumming) 4th of July, Mailman, The Day I Tried to Live, and Limo Wreck. What great songs...
The production on the record is top-notch too. Everything is blended so well, and as I mentioned above about the drumming, it's amazing and not just exclusive to that song. Cameron kills it.7/2/06 - Denver, CO

I will say that I do have a hard time deciding between Badmotorfinger and Superunknown as to which one I like more. There is something about Badmotorfinger that is so raw and brutal and also very defining of Soundgarden. I feel like at the time it was released, the sound of the record, and their image, they were the prototype grunge band.
In my opinion, they succeeded in making two albums, back to back, that are perfect from start to finish.7/2/06 - Denver, CO
