I'm not gonna lie to you, I've heard 6 tracks off the album (came to me in a dream) 8-) and from what I dreamt, this is gonna be the rebirth of pearl jam. I believe we're gonna get blown away from this album like seriously blown away. This is no backspacer. I'm not talking about there concerts cuz all of us who've been on this ride already know, I'm talking musically wise, the boys sound fresh, charged and ready to grab the world and say," this is music!" It's like vedder said in the mini video, there's a lot to be angry about. And he's right. From what we've "heard" from the Getawy, that's gonna be the new anthem of this next ride. As alive was to the 90's the Getaway is for the NOW! When you have vedder rocking out to his "own" song genuinely, you know that he's on ball. For all of us that have been on this ride this long and for those that have recently got on board, holyfuck are we in for some fucken crazy shit. All the BS album shitters, you're not gonna have anything to shit on from what I've dreamt. As big as we think pearl jam is, wait, this album is gonna make them bigger. You think the last 20+ years have been crazy for us, wait till the next years. I truly believe we are about to witness the rebirth of pearl jam. Not quite as huge as the 90's but still fucken BIG. Big as fuck! My parents are coming to visit me next sat and I haven't seen them in 2+ years (live over seas), LB comes out the following week or so and then the fucken tour! I haven't had this much to look forward to, I mean really look forward to in a long time. I've had a a fucked up couple of years with all the shits that happened in my life and could use a rebirth for myself. I have a feeling I've found the soundtrack to my rebirth like I did back in 91......

I remember in high school how Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Doors, and the Grateful Dead all had a major renaissance. I've expected this to happen with Pearl Jam for some time. Perhaps this is the time?

  • It will always be challenging to get good tickets especially if they keep the lottery in effect. It seems very trendy to collect pj stuff now a days, my point is that thjngs are definatly changing and getting big on a commercial level. Just my opinion but it's a little harder now to seal the deal on something if you have your eyes on a particular item or event. Get in line with the rest of the millions the line is getting longer and longer. I think everyone is catching on and realizing that this band is the real deal and one of best group of songwriters in the biz. The history of the band and they're journey is also intriguing. Bit it did seem easier in the 90's to just go get a money order and check off all of the posters and goods you wanted on your tenclub newsletter with options of second choices and send it in and receive your goods in the mail a few weeks later. It's crazy how much people pay for these posters now. Mine are priceless! Love this band always have and always will! Pjfan4life:)

Speaking to your point though, its been so long since Backspacer there is naturally a big build up to L-Bolt but the band has been kind of casual about the promotion of it, just putting out the single and vignettes so people could hear for themselves. They haven't been verbally touting the record as the next best thing or we took so long because this is going to be so worth it so I have been reserved until lately when more material has been exposed and I now think like you do that holy shit this could ironically be something special like No Code or Yield?

I believe they're exuding a palpable air of confidence about this album. Looking back, it seems like they were really trying to convince themselves that the last few albums were their best work yet. Those albums were great, but you can see them bursting at the seams, and holding back a bit, when it comes to Lightning Bolt. It's like they don't want to jinx it before public consumption. To me, it really seems like they know they just made a "game changer."

They look straight up giddy about unleashing this album. So am I!

Yes Yes Yes, its as if they know they have bought the best Christmas present for someone and aren't going to give away what it is but can't wait for them to open it.

I can feel that this album is gonna be special but I dont agree with the term rebirth. For me, PJ was always there. Even if I didnt follow them for 13 years of my life. They were there and doing their stuff.

If you mean by rebirth, reaching out to masses, that I dont know. And I dont care. For me, PJ is one of the best bands ever, on the same scale with Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. I dont care what some authorities or sales figures say.

Good luck with your own rebirth, tho. I hope you'll get the inspiration from the LB album.
What's your part, who you are?

    I know, I've seen the pm's you've sent me 8-) You Greek whore! :D
  • Really... who gives a FUCK how LB is received by the general public.

It will be epic for me regardless because I am a PJ addict. Im in and always will be. I don't care what others think. I heard MYM first.. live at Wrigley with LB and Future Days. MYM is a great tune, Sirens is growing on me.. really looking forward to the album version of LB and the complete LB journey.

FOR US FANS THE RECORD WILL BE GREAT.

PJ is the (pardon the cliché phrase) "soundtrack to our lives" the album will evolve like all the others... (wasn't a fan of No Code when I first heard it) :fp:

Tuesday the 15th ill be heading to work, pick up the CD at Future Shop at lunch... and then go for a 3 hour drive after the days work is done to experience the full album. Cant wait to hear some of the tracks in Vancouver and Seattle in December.

Who knows where LB will settle in my personal PJ archive... my appreciation of their music, live shows and general artistic excellence is always changing and developing.

Long live PJ, it's fans, the music, and live shows... on goes this all encompassing trip.
IF NOTHING IS EVERYTHING, I'LL HAVE IT ALL.

Awesome post, lets hope the rebirth isn't too big though,
I kinda like it that people don't even know PJ is still around
Sounds like you have an exciting Fall coming up
I'm going to Philly, Brooklyn & Baltimore
Hope to meet you at the shows

  • I think the original poster is pretty mistaken about the potential of this particular album based on what is currently available. With this producer and the approach that the band takes toward making albums (especially lately), I think we're a long way away from Pearl Jam putting out an album that "rebirths" them or puts them strongly back into the limelight they once knew. Also, the music industry has completely changed too.

I have no doubt there will be some good stuff on the new album, but I also know that there's way too many people sensing cheesiness and writing about it to think this album is going to redefine Pearl Jam in amazingly positive ways. The album appears to be a slightly more creative version of Backspacer, but inherits way too many of the same faults that album has to be the clean break necessary to achieve something like what I think the original poster has in mind.

And trust me, I hate writing that, but I'm trying to be objective and truthful. I'd love for PJ to put out something truly creative, emotive, groundbreaking, relevant, ambitious and filled with great story telling. But from what is available to listen to, Lightning Bolt isn't that. I get the sense that there will be agreement that it is better than Backspacer, and maybe another album or two, but overall I think it will still be near the bottom of most people's rankings of Pearl Jam albums unless they are the type of fan who came along late or are the type of fan that really loves Backspacer. I know that there will be exceptions, but overall that's my impression.

Even though I don't agree with all your points, I really enjoyed your post. I am not sure if LB will be a "rebirth", it will maybe be a "rebirth" in a series of "rebirths", meaning that all albums are different than the previous ones. I hope for something more experimental than BS, for I think that was lacking: the freedom or space to try out new things. Overall they were on familair territory on BS - but that was the point, I guess.

I wholheartedly disagree with your last sentence however, for it classifies fans in categories of "status": "unless they are the type of fan who came along late or are the type of fan that really loves Backspacer." I came in when PJ made Vitalogy, and I love BS. So how BS is perceived has much more to do with the way you can or cannot connect with the album, than when you became a fan. I think at least.
