Dates: Tuesday, 10/15/13 and Wednesday, 10/16/13
Time: 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Location: THE CITIZEN (NicheXchange), 120 Commercial St, Worcester MA

NicheXchange has a wine/cheese/chocolate bar in the front (The Citizen), a prohibition-themed bar in the back (Still & Stir) that used to be the city jail... the iron bars of the holding cells are still in place! They have a large courtyard patio (can be open-air, if the weather is nice!) with a stage where we'll prob be set up, a full restaurant upstairs (The People's Kitchen), and the bar next door is a hookah lounge (Michael's Cigar Bar) that shares the courtyard. They are located across the street from the DCU Center, right behind the building. They also offer valet parking, and there is an ATM near the entrance.

* There is NO cover. The pre-parties are all-ages events that are open to the public.
* We need auction and raffle item donations, as well as event volunteers. (scroll down for more info)

This is an amazing cause, in honor of Worcester native, Kristen Schraven Mawn. First Descents (FD) offers young adult cancer fighters and survivors a free outdoor adventure experience designed to empower them to climb, paddle, and surf beyond their diagnoses, defy their cancers, reclaim their lives, and connect with others doing the same. Kristen participated in one such adventure with FD in June of 2012, when she was considered “cancer free”, after vigorously battling breast cancer with rounds of chemo, surgery, and radiation. In the Outer Banks of NC she learned much more than just how to surf... she chose the nickname “Hardcore” there, and returned feeling renewed and looking forward to the future. Tragically, two months later she discovered that the cancer cells had metastasized to her lungs, and though she fought it bravely until the end of her treatment, Kristen passed away on March 16th, 2013. "Team Hardcore" was developed to sponsor FD camps in Kristen's honor, specifically the 2013 surf camp in Santa Barbara (where Kristen had planned to go next), and also a NEW camp in North Conway, NH (hopefully to be established in 2014). The team's mission is to have an impact on the lives of other young adults with cancer by helping them realize the FD motto, to be “Out Living It.”

    Oh dear God, that is one restaurant I have been dying to go to. This is coming from someone who owns "Good Vibrations" on vinyl and named his iPhone "Marky Mark." I know he has nothing to do with it but the name, but that BBQ Burger looks delicious.

    His brother Paul has 2 restaurants there (Hingham Shipyard), also has Alma Nove(named after their mother Alma and the fact she has 9 kids), I've been to the plaza numerous times but yet to eat at either place. We go to the movies there sometimes, the theater is right next to the restaurants, and Mark has had premiers of his last 2 movies there and shown up, we keep seeing it on the news after the fact and my wife says. "why didn't we go?" Well maybe cause we didn't know till after it happened.

    I'm also interested to try Wahlburger's. Considering I live a couple towns away I have no good excuse for why I haven't yet.

    Hello all! Spread the word about our parties! The venue is very cool and has some great history behind it! They have a fabulous enclosed courtyard...the building used be the home of the city Jail! There is a second bar area that actually has the Jail bars in it! We plan on having a great time with our friends! The Citizen is directly across the street from the DCU!

    We are currently accumulating some really great donations that will be part of our raffles/auctions...once we get these donations documented we will post them for you!

    Performers have been added to our events... we have Matt Fuggi graciously video-DJ'ing both nights, and the talented Billy Letendre will be playing a solo acoustic set of PJ covers on night 2! :clap:

    As you can see, we have some FAN-tastic items already for raffle/auction, but we could def still use some more. DON'T FORGET, WE NEED TO SPREAD THESE DONATIONS OVER TWO NIGHTS. So if you have a poster you never got around to hanging or don't have the wall-space for, or a t-shirt that didn't quite fit you right, or duplicates of your 10club xmas vinyls... send them our way!! Any other pop-culture items would work too, as well as local sports memorabilia, or even gift certificates! Remember that you will receive a donation receipt for tax deduction purposes. Just follow the instructions provided in the original post of this thread. Thanks!
