A great version of this song. It seems that they play this song a little to fast sometimes. Ed slows it down just a little bit.

I absolutely love this song. Makes me want to dance every time I hear it...and I don't even dance.

Dear Listeners,

I was recently sent a book that I thought some of you more hardcore folks might find interesting.

It’s called The Old Leather Man written by Dan DeLuca. It is a detailed historical document all about this intense character who roamed the northeast on foot in the mid to late 1800s.

About twelve years ago on a winters day hike my friend Tim R., his kids and I stumbled upon one of his old caves. That night I was inspired to write not one but two songs about the man (the second, not so creatively titled "Leatherman II" was never released…definitely the more somber of the two).

While this book offers up his life and times in the most complete manner as possible, the mystery of Leather Man remains intact.

It’s also interesting to note the parallels between the Leather Man and Chris McCandless who we got to know through Into the Wild.

Just thought I’d pass it on…

Damn, Frank. Doesn't look like not being able to dance is hurting you in the ladies department. Nice work, bro.

Every time I hear this song or even hear mention of it I think of...

Got to hear it at my very first PJ show (Manchester, 2000)

Still never got around to picking up / reading the book.
http://www.amazon.com/Old-Leather-Man-H ... 0819568627

In 1883, wearing a sixty-pound suit sewn from leather boot-tops, a wanderer known only as the Leather Man began to walk a 365 mile loop between the Connecticut and Hudson Rivers that he would complete every 34 days, for almost six years. His circuit took him through at least 41 towns in southwestern Connecticut and southeastern New York, sleeping in caves, accepting food from townspeople, and speaking only in grunts and gestures along the way. What remains of the mysterious Leather Man today are the news clippings and photographs taken by the first-hand witnesses of this captivating individual. The Old Leather Man gathers the best of the early newspaper accounts of the Leather Man, and includes maps of his route, historic photographs of his shelters, the houses he was known to stop at along his way, and of the Leather Man himself. This history tracks the footsteps of the Leather Man and unravels the myths surrounding the man who made Connecticut's caves his home.

..

Wish I had that chance to pick up Brain Methe's Leatherman print he did for PJ20.
