Here’s what Stone told Rolling Stone about the album:

I don’t know, it’s hard to say. We’ve recorded some songs, and we’re going to record and write some more. You never know, it might be that we’re a song away or two, or it might be that we’re going to record six or seven more songs. I think the main thing is that we’re not in a rush and there’s no urgency to it. The most important thing is that we put something out that continues to expand our boundaries rather than trying to follow what we’ve done in the past. I think it’s a good time to hopefully continue to experiment, and continue to shake it up. So that people can go “Wow, that’s kind of weird for Pearl Jam,” and then 10 years later they can go, “Oh, that’s my favorite period.” Which is always kind of what happens. You try something and at first everybody doesn’t necessarily understand it, and then you look back and you go, thank God we tried something new, because it really opened a door up for us to be able to do this and this and this beyond that.

    ...

Kinda feels like the '93 tour. They will test those new songs out in Europe. Then come USA time, they will have a new record on their shoulder to tour on. :D

All I got from that was "my guess is that the tenth Pearl Jam record will sound a lot more like No Code"...and my heart doubled in speed from the anticipation.

I read that originally thinking thats what stone said, only to re-read it and realize it was just the writers opinion. I do hope it is no code-ish.

Haven't they pretty much uttered the same mumbo jumbo before the last 4 records.

    Moving on.

I agree with this...and I hope so!! I like hearing new stuff live first but I also LOVE having just heard the new release and then hearing it live..cuz the tune on the record always sounds so much better after you've enjoyed it live :) Can't wait!

I'm glad they are taking their time..I just hope it doesn't take too awfully long ;)

Actually there are five of us! I actually really enjoyed the song. Sounded like a darker version of some of the stuff off of Backspacer. I really love the ending with the vocal overdubs. But hey, that's just me. That being said, I also look forward to the album possibly being more "No Code-ish." I always like my Pearl Jam being a little too difficult for the casual listener to get into. That's what's made being a fan of this band so great for so long. While having them be so open and accessible since Backspacer came out has been great after having them kinda behind a curtain for so long, it's also made them feel slightly less like "my" band, if that makes any sense.

Hopefully, the reason for not being in a rush to put out the new album is because the PJ20 Alpine Valley deluxe box set (and super deluxe vinyl set) is what they are more focused on.

If Of the Earth isn't on it, I'm packing my shit up and joining the Creed fan club (or DMB)

Now put the damn thing to tape and don't try and call me on my bluff

I enjoy Olè...not their best but I don't see where all this hate comes from

I don't see how some think No Code was experimental. I think it sounded different because of Jack but that's about it. I see nothing experimental about that album. When I think experimental I think of what Radiohead has done from album to album.

That's cool. It's best that they take their time with it.

I'm a fan of Olè... but I also think there's a reason why they released it by itself, for free.

Not experimental, but some songs were a departure from their previous albums. I really hope that the new album is not like No Code (my first or second fav PJ album depending on my mood), but hope it truly is something new and different and/or experimental that is something fresh for the band and its fans. I'm glad they aren't rushing through the album. Quesiton is, are they not rushing through it because they are working on perfecting the material, or because they would rather be doing other things? They could still be rushing through the actual writing and recording of the songs...Guess we'll just wait and see! 8-)

I'm hoping that the next album features a lot more guitar work than on Backspacer and some longer well constructed songs. Stone and Mike are both great guitarists and there were practically no solos on Backspacer. Of The Earth is a good enough song but I think it's strength is as a live jam so don't know if it would fit in with what they are planning but if they went down that road I'd be pretty happy. Ole is a fun setlist filler and I'm not sure why it is so unpopular? It's not exactly groundbreaking to be fair but it's a good tip of the hat to their punk influences. Backspacer grew on me slowly and the songs were fine on the tour but I'm pretty bored with them now and it makes me appreciate S/T a lot more.

I wouldn't call No Code "experimental" either. Wrong word to describe it, but I think I know what the guy means. And them taking their time is the best and worst news we could hope for. That means the best stuff (in their opinion) will be on it, but we might have to wait a bit longer.

Actually its pretty relevant cause we know the band has plans to be in the studio this month so that probably means they are in the studio right now. That is why Ed would be too busy this week to be on.

We know they had one 2 week recording session with Brendan O' Brien in LA at Henson Studios last May. Mike said they completed 7 songs. We also know they are back in the studio again this month. If they can finish it this month we should have a new record come August (ish).
