Again, IF IT HAPPENS....
I figured that I would start an 'info thread' to help answer people's questions.... since I have received many pm's about it already.

I'm not an expert by any means, but I will try to compile some info for travel, lodging, and what-not.
Feel free to add your own info or pm me any additional links and such to add to the original post.

Hope this helps! :D

http://www.alpinevalleyresort.com/

http://www.countryinns.com/east-troy-ho ... 20/wietroy -closest, within 10 min.

http://www.harborshoreslg.com/ -only a quick 20+ min drive

http://www.wisconsin-hotels.org/cities/ ... Kgod9XSfAw - Hotels in Elkhorn- 15+ mins.

http://snugharborwi.com/ -camping

I was thinking about house rentals. I have looked into a few, close to Lake Geneva which is a very touristy town with more to offer in the vicinity.

There is always anywhere around Milwaukee as well, but that is going to be a bit longer of a drive- especially after a looong day/night of rockin'- but much more options.

-Even if it is more money to fly into milwaukee, you will definately save the headache and 2+ hours getting in from Chicago... plus the rental car.

The venue is in the middle of nowhere, but there are plenty of hotels in the surrounding areas... And, when they say it is a 15-20 min. drive to somewhere, it will be just that. The only traffic that you will have to deal with around the venue is fellow concert-goers, not crazy city dwellers (besides all you east coasters, road trippin' it in ;) ).

I have told someone else this, the venue is set in the country for the most part. A few miles isn't far, but you will be walking in the moonlight, in the country. It isn't like downtown anywhere, out of the city limits. Like farm country.... You may be dodging drunk idiots the whole way, but I am sure we could fine people to carpool with.

  • So, Chicago is the closest "big" city?

Is it possible to just park your car and sleep in it? To save on hotels etc?

How far is Chicago from NY. Think I'm gonne fly to NY and then take a rental car to the festival...

That is going to be about a 15+ hour drive from NY (my guess, anyways...). Fly into Chicago if nothing else, but Milwaukee is the closest airport- 30-45 mins away from the venue.

Ok. 15 hours is a bit much I guess. Guess I will have to look at flying. Will look at it. Do you have any cheap airlines in the states like "ryan air" and others here in Europe which are dirt cheap?

You're gonna need to program that GPS to another destination though. South of Alpine Valley for sure.

    I'll see you there.

You are going to be my travel agent on retainer. My wife and I will definetely be doing all we can to make the trip, and your help is very much appreciated.

We'll treat you to drinks/dinner, marshmallows over the fire... whatever works!

I would talk to Dimitris about this... if he's okay with that. I am not so familiar with international travel and finding cheap fares. But, I am certain you won't be the only one travelling over seas for this.

If this happens at Alpine Valley and people are flying in, I would strongly suggest flying into the Milwaukee airport. You don't want to have to deal with O'Hare and then a 2 hour ride to the venue. Trust me.

The last time I went to the UC in Chicago, it took 2 hours to get there from the WI/IL border. It takes 1.5 hrs for me to get to Alpine...and it's 90 miles away!

Good advice so far and hope to see all you in August!

I live in Milwaukee, and cannot wait to see if this really happens to be true. I could go and sleep back at my place after each show!! That would be so awesome. I could almost work during the day and then drive down to the show after.

    Should be awesome!

Jen C. Addle is definitely right - Milwaukee is a much more convenient locale to land in/operate from than O'Hare. However, INTERNATIONAL FRIENDS, you might save some significant cash by flying direct from your nearest major city to Chicago, and calling it good w/a rental car. I had a recent trip to Paris, and flying direct from Chicago saved some coin. The inconvenience charge was getting a shuttle to/from Chicago O'Hare Airport.

As long as you're not driving on I-94 during rush hour, it's easy enough navigating to/from the airport. Just an option if you're gonna fly across an ocean, because beers are not gonna be cheap at the venue!
