T's--Limited Produced=Limited Purchase?

edited October 2009 in The Porch
I was so happy when 10C did the poster pre-sale. Now I didn't need to get there when the doors opened to get a poster.
Now the COOL new T's for each show. Love them.
But now I am reading they are limited. And that people (non-fans?) are buying them in bulk just to sell them on ebay for profit. Sounds like a version of scalping T's :)
Anyway, I know 10C hates scalpers and they used to limited posters to 1 or 2 per person. Can they limit the number of T's sold per customer? Or maybe make more per show?

Or a stretch....Open a merch booth just for 10C members picking up their tickets. Pick up your ticket. Show your tickets to booth and buy the merch before the show and take it to your car before the show starts. I know that is prob too much work, but it was an idea. I know that State College 03 had a booth open before the show and I got my poster in the car by like 3pm. It was great.

Thanks 10C ;)

if people are willing to pay huge amounts of cash than is it really the scalpers fault for cashing in on these. don't blame the scalpers blame the morons who are overpaying for these. also your idea would be unfair to non 10c members who are fans of this band.

And that's why there is a ? We always say how PJ fans are great, etc. I almost always have had a chance to buy two posters at shows (wife always there), and sell one on ebay. But I am kind enough to let the next guy get one. I guess I am the dumb one for not letting greed get in the way of making people happy.

did i say that anywhere in my post ummmmmmm NO. don't assume things or put words into peoples mouth, k thanks.

posters are massed produced so everyone in the world has chance to get them. so it's really no biggie if 10c members get first dibs. these tshirts for some reason are limited and I'd like for some one from pj to chime in on this as to why they are limited.

i would really love to get my hands on the seattle tshirts but I'm not gonna be a fool and overbid on them. i"ll get em through other avenues.

I can't speak for the shows so far this year, but I know every show I have been too over the past 10 years the posters have sold out before PJ took the stage.

Simply put, they were shady night 2 in LA

I never have complained about anything really, but this just really was shady!!!!!

I was third in line for the outside merch booth, and got assed out!!! People were even giving this guy in front their money has he signed his cc reciept, to get more shirts. This was after his transaction was done!!! I was next, but when that happened they got them, then they were sold out of the XXL and XL...

I Also had heard a few of them say, oh yeah i got a lot in my car if you want to come out after the show and get one. We can work something out!!! WTF

Thanks guys!!!! All i wanted was one thats it....

Rant over.... it is, what it is

yes the posters have sold out before the show started but everyone going to the venue has a chance to get them at the venue or through the artists website. i saw a shitload of posters just laying flat on a table at tower A merch booth at msg 2 last year. even got mine for free  . of course 10/31 is gonna sell out seeing as how its the "last show" at the spectrum.

Some sort of nonsense like this was happening at the final NIN shows a few weeks ago, particularly in California (is this a California thing? didn't see or hear of it happening in NYC when I was there), and some people snapped the main offender's photo, they figured out who it was and found his account on ebay, and the end result was his tickets for some other NIN shows were canceled. (He'd been seen buying shirts and then leaving these coveted shows after getting his merch, before NIN even took the stage). At the shows after this happened people were limited to one or two shirts each. I think that's a good idea, esp. with limited edition items.

whilst I do have problems with 'flippers' bulk buying, when we got to the outside booth yesterday (before doors opened), they only had S left.
We needed 5 M an L and 2 XL, all for fans that were at the show, but some still having dinner, other still at work.
One of us sacrificed himself and got in as doors opened (and so couldn't come back out to finish his beer) and got 5 M, all for fans that attended the show (L and XL were gone already inside by the time he got to the front of the queue :().

so not all people buying multiples are scalpers, they might just help out friends.

If they didn't do them so limited (Like they've now done for Posters thankfully!) then there wouldn't be a problem.
plus it's not like they can't offload whatever is left on 10c, there's bound to be fans of a particular team that weren't at the shows.

on that note, I have a Lakers M that whilst nice looking I'd be very happy to trade for a Cubs one ;)

FYI, PJ posters sold at shows are far from "mass produced". They're all hand silk screened, usually in quantities in the hundreds (generally est. 300-500) so they're very limited for a show that packs in thousands of fans. If there truly are piles of posters unsold then I have to believe that the shirt frenzy might be distracting the flippers away from the posters this year. It's easier to shove a tee shirt into a bag and eventually flip it in "mint" condition that it is to carry around posters to flip and ship. The scalpers / flippers also have the double fan base mania, fans of the band as well as fans of the teams = big flipper money. It totally sucks and I don't hold out much hope of getting a shirt for the San Diego show. But maybe, just maybe, 10Club will put some online after the tour. Fingers crossed, some cool shirts (and posters) so far.

    Peace,
    KJ

I don't need to buy tshirts and posters to be a fan of Pearl Jam. I've spent $35 on a shirt before, only not to be able to wear it after a few washes (even if I hang dry them). They shrink too fast/too much. They need to make 2-3XLs for all of us big belly fans. Not all of us have six packs. I'm also not really much of a poster person either. This is no way a knock on people who do like shirts and posters. To each his/her own.

I can 100% predict that the T-shirt sale for the last two nights will be massively fucked up. During Night 2 LA, while waiting in line already knowing it had become instantaneously hopeless. I saw the merch Supervisor for the venue (I'm assuming he's a supervisor as he had a headset and was communicating with the employees behind the stand and the lone yellow security guard) He told them to tell everyone the shirt was sold out inside, and then proceeded to say "Yeah I took mine to the car already, don't forget to do the same tuesday and wednesday" So basically, this guy is a supervisor at the venue and is either:
    A) Buying 1 shirt for each night because he's a big fan, despite working every night of the 4 night stand.
    B) A really HUGE LA sports fan who knows no matter what he will want all 4 shirts.
    C) Figured out really quickly that there was a buck to be made for flipping thsirts, and is using his position to capitalize.

Call me a cynic but I'd say C. This whole situation is really silly, I realize at this point the number of shirts is the number of shirts. But let's hope on future tours they can better gauge the demand for these shirts.

Fingers crossed, some cool shirts (and posters) so far.

    Peace,
    KJ

Aw, dude! You are right, San Diego's gonna be a bitch to try to get a shirt for! :(

Where is the merch booth at the Gibson Amphitheatre? Is there more than one? After missing out on the Toronto shirts, I need any edge I can get at LA 3 and 4 :)

There is one past the 10C/will-call booths but before you get to the turnstiles. You don't even need a ticket to get there. Shirts have been selling out there before the gates even open.

There is another past the turnstiles. It is to your left as you walk toward the doors of the theater. Shirts have sold out here incredibly fast as well, but it's a better shot than waiting at the outside booth.

    Good luck.

Their were 3, one just outside of entry, one just on the left side after you scan your ticket, and then one inside the venue on the right side, as you walk straight in from getting your ticket scanned inside, go to the right about 50 feet or so after you get inside... I would be their at the Gibson at 5 if not before to line up just right of the will call booth where you get your fan club tickets. there is a entry gate that is closed, but they open up as people wait. Then they move forward towards the Gibson as more people get in line to wait.

Be one of the first to line up if you want a shirt... i was third in line for the outside one, and didn't get a shirt.
The one outside like all others would have about 6 people across and 2 people behind the merch stand.

Anyone has a pic of the ACL shirt? I heard it was going to be Longhorns.
Also, I'm curious about the Toronto shirt.

If this is any indication, the market for these shirts is collapsing pretty quickly:

After eBay fees, etc, this guy barely broke even. Just hold out and you'll probably get one for close to cost. Maybe.
