New Pearl Jam Game - Need Testers TONIGHT

Wilds and I have been working on a new game that we thought would be fun to play with some of you on the forum. We'll be testing this out with the next five shows, so definitely consider this game to be in beta mode. We are looking for 8 people to do this trial run with us, but you must be available to do a live draft tonight at 10 PM EST. The draft should only take an hour or so.

The game mechanics work similarly to fantasy sports games, so if you are familiar with those, this will be easy. Here's how it works - 10 teams will each have 13 spots on their song roster. We will go through a live draft during which teams will choose which songs they want on their team. Once a song is drafted, it can't be chosen by another team - just like drafting a player in fantasy football.

If one of your songs gets played, you get 5 points. Each team will be required to draft and start at least one song from each album and one cover. The remaining three spots can be considered flex spots, and can be filled with any songs.

You will also designate which portion of the show you think your song will be in - opener, main set, encore 1, encore 2, and closer - and your team will get 5 bonus points if the song gets played within its designated time in the show. You can designate 8 songs for the main set, 2 for encore 1, and 1 for encore 2, opener, and closer. A sample lineup would look like this:

Opener - Sometimes (No Code)

Main Set - The Fixer (Backspacer)
Evacuation (Binaural)
Why Go (Flex)
Given to Fly (Yield)
Down (Flex)
Black (Ten)
Blood (Vs.)
Not For You (Vitalogy)

Encore 1 - Wasted Reprise (S/T)
I Am Mine (Riot Act)

Encore 2 - Rockin' in the Free World (Flex)

Closer - Yellow Ledbetter (Flex)

Teams will compete in a head-to-head format, and the team with the best record after San Diego will win this leg.

We are looking for people who will be able to commit to doing the draft tonight at 10 PM. Ideally we need people who will also be willing to give feedback and help tweak the rules to make the game more fun and playable in the future.

    But we will do it again for Philly, and then Down Under if it looks like it's working/people are having fun with it.

    yeah, just to be clear, the team of songs we draft tonight we will be the roster we have for the next five shows. We won't be doing a new draft for each show.

    This is an awesome idea. I'd love to play but it's really difficult to commit to so many drafts.

    Thinking about drafting ... gimme a bit to confirm.

    you should make it a requirement to "start" a cover song each show. thus, everyone has to draft a cover tune.

    Two things I'm fond of ... fantasy sports and Pearl Jam ... such a dangerous mix.

    edit - oh, and 10 teams of 20 songs so ... 200 songs? This draft is going to take forever ... for a BETA, you should cut that down.

    It's only 1 draft. You draft a team tonight for the next few shows.... LA through SD.

    And It might take a while.

    We can possible cut it off if it takes too long?

    both great suggestions. For the purpose of the beta test, let's not do the 'bench' songs, and cut the starting lineup from 15 songs to 13. That would make 13 rounds and a much shorter draft.

    I also agree with the cover idea. Starting lineup would then be one from each album, one cover, and 3 flex.

    I hope you will sign up, jimed. This is a dangerous mix, but if it works like I think it will, it will add a whole other element to watching the setlist threads come in! Let's do it!

    Cool! I edited the first post a bit. We'll only be doing a 13 round draft this time with no bench spots, just to test the game mechanics. That way you guys won't have to submit a lineup to me before each show...if this works we can expand it a bit for next set of shows.
