1992 "Porch" vs. 2012 "Porch" - Which Do You Like Better?

I guess it doesn't need to be specifically from either of those years, but suffice it to say there is a marked difference in how the songs are played. I was listening to a version from a show in Chicago in 1992, and my wife made the comment that it sounds like fast-forwarding through a recording of the song.

Now, that's not necessarily a bad thing. But it got me thinking: which version do you prefer, the earlier "Porch-on-speed" version, or the newer, slower, foot-stomping version?

Personally, there are aspects I like about both, but if I was picking, I'd go with the older version. Pretty sweet to hear them rip through it.

Always love this song but prefer faster versions.

I'm leaning towards the later era versions these days purely for the reason I think Ed has a better tone to his voice now. He really forced it in the early days and I loved it then but the song has grown with him also leading to the slower intro. I'd still love to hear them play it fast right off the bat once in a while though but once the intro is out of the way it still rocks damn hard. Try listening to the London, Hyde Park 10 version for one of the best I've heard. The band are on fire and Mike shreds for a few solid minutes... ;)

Neither...I like the middle period. Little more groove oriented and probably the tightest overall but still some great jams.

I don't hear a huge difference in tempo between the early version and more recent versions aside from the intro, but I think the early versions may be the absolute high water mark for PJ's intensity and improvisational skills as a live band.

1992, Ed sang it with way more passion, Dave A's drumming kicked the shit out of anything Matt has done for the song, and the jams in the middle were great, but 1994 was had the best versions. Listen to the jam in the middle of the song at the Fox show in Atlanta and St. Petersburgh a couple of nights before, sick jams

I prefer the Hamilton 2005 version
    or the Hartford 2008 version
both amazing - the Hartford Porch has a great scream and Hamilton Porch was the first PJ song I ever saw live. What a great way to launch my PJ fanatacism.

I'm going with the 2012 version because I love the slow start with the solo guitar and then the build into the full song. Plus, I'm glad Ed doesn't do any more risky climbs to the rafters.
It's nice to be nice to the nice.

1992 much much better, in my opinion. PJ lost a fantastic drummer when they got rid of dave a.

Not a big fan of the slow start but no big deal. 1992 version.
