Save Vernazza, Cinque Terre, Italy

So somehow I just found out that Vernazza, a town in Cinque Terre, one of my favorite places in the world, was destroyed by a flood in October.

This website: http://savevernazza.com/, shows the terrible before & after pictures. The people of Cinque Terre are incredibly gracious in putting up with hordes of tourists every year, providing top notch hospitality and universally high quality food & drink to everybody who visits their stunningly beautiful area, so I felt like I should give something back to repay their kindness in their time of need. And also, selfishly, I want to go back and have more great experiences there. Obviously they can expect little help from the Italian government given the current situation.

Also, this website, http://enso.smugmug.com/Photography/Europe/Vernazza/12011043_w254dv#!i=851992452&k=NYuRj,
is selling prints of Vernazza with the proceeds benefiting Save Vernazza.

Maybe a few people here can help out. Grazie! 8-)

Yes, it's in Italy. Near Genoa.

Yeah I shouldn't have assumed that everyone knows where Cinque Terre is.

Wow. This sucks. My wife and I stayed there during a trip we took to Europe way back in November/December of 1999.

We rolled into town on the train without any idea where we'd be staying and got to talking to one of the locals at the train station and he just said "I know a place for you." So we followed him up approximately 73,000 stairs (that might be a slightly high estimate) and he showed us to this tiny room in a villa overlooking the sea. It also had access to a private garden.

Not the most spacious place, but it was quite comfortable and the view was great. And really, after dragging our stuff up all those stairs, unless the place was a complete shithole, we were going to stay there.

I could go on about how great a time we had there but that's probably enough for now.
