We never do these anymore. :( I just really do have a great love for lyrics and words when it comes to expressing feelings, frustrations etc. or finding something that I can identify with. So please, do share some of your favorites if you wouldn't mind.

Reprieve - Ani Difranco

manhattan is an island
like the women who are
surrounded by children in a car
surrounded by cars
or manhattan was a project
that projected the worst of mankind
first one and then the other
has made its mark on my mind

it's sixty years later
near the hypo-center of the a-bomb
i'm in the middle of hiroshima
watching a twisted old eucalyptus tree wave
one of the very few lives that survived and lives on
remembering the day it was suddenly
thousands of degrees in the shade
and what all of nature gave birth to
terror took in a blinding ray
with the kind of pain
it would take cancer so many years just to say

oh to grow up gagged and blindfolded
a man's world in your little girl's head
the voice of the great mother drowned out
in the constant honking
haunting the car crash up ahead
oh to grow up hypnotized
and try to shake yourself awake
cuz you can sense what has been lost
cuz you can sense what is at stake

yeah, so
it took me a few years to catch on
that those days i catch everyone's eye
correspond with those nights of the month
when the moon gleams like an egg in the sky
and men are using a sense
they don't even know they have
just to watch me walk by
and me, i'm supposed to be sensible
leave my animal outside to cry

but when all of nature conspires
to make me her glorious whore
it's cuz in my body i hold the secret recipe
of precisely what life is for
and the patriarchy that looks to shame me for it
is the same one making war
and i've said too much already
but i'll tell you something more

to split yourself in two
is just the most radical thing you can do
so girl if that shit ain't up to you
then you simply are not free
cuz from the sunlight on my hair
to which eggs i grow to term
to the expression that i wear
all i really own is me
yes to split yourself in two
is just the most radical thing you can do
goddess forbid that little atom
should grow so jealous of eve
and in the face of the great farce
of the nuclear age
feminism ain't about equality
it's about reprieve

Decree - Ani Difranco

step up and forfeit your frontal lobe
to the sexed up strobe of celebrity
never mind that the nanoseconds in between
are some of the darkest darkness you've ever seen

keep your eye on my finger
and listen to the sound of my voice
get your subliminal decree and your false security
be all that you can be
be all that you can be

in hospitals and schools
airports and banks and bars
big ones on street corners
little ones driving by in cars
glowing through countless
bedroom curtains at night
that 20k tone
and that pale light
saying
daddy knows best
yes, this is the news
in 90-second segments
officially produced
and aired again and again and again
by the little black and white pawns
of the network yes men
while the stars are going out
and the stripes are getting bent

cancer, the great teacher
has been opening schools
downstream from every factory
still, everywhere fools
are squinting into microscopes
researching cells
trying to figure out a way
we can all live in hell
well
step back
look up
you'll see i'm dimming the sun
but you won't, will you?
no, that's a good little one

cuz daddy knows best
yes, this is the news
in 90-second segments
officially produced
and aired again and again and again
by the little black and white pawns
of the network yes men
while the stars are going out
and the stripes are getting bent

As I walk through
This wicked world
Searchin' for light in the darkness of insanity.

I ask myself
Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?

And each time I feel like this inside,
There's one thing I wanna know:
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding? Ohhhh
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding?

And as I walked on
Through troubled times
My spirit gets so downhearted sometimes
So where are the strong
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony.

'Cause each time I feel it slippin' away, just makes me wanna cry.
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding? Ohhhh
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding?

So where are the strong?
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony.

'Cause each time I feel it slippin' away, just makes me wanna cry.
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding? Ohhhh
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding? Ohhhh
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding?
The wind is blowing cold
Have we lost our way tonight?
Have we lost our hope to sorrow?

Feels like were all alone
Running further from what’s right
And there are no more heroes to follow

So what are we becoming?
Where did we go wrong?

Don't walk the plank like I did
You will be dispensed with
When you've become inconvenient
In the harrowdown hill
Where you went to school
That's where I am
That's where I'm lying down

Did I fall or was I pushed?
Did I fall or was I pushed?
And where's the blood?
And where's the blood?

I'm coming home
I'm coming home
To make it all right
So dry your eyes

We think the same things at the same time
We just cant do anything about it

So don't ask me
Ask the ministry
Don't ask me
Ask the ministry

We think the same things at the same time
There are so many of us
So you can't count

We think the same things at the same time
There are too many of us
So you can't count

Can you see me when I'm running?
Can you see me when I'm running?
Away from them

I can't take their pressure
No one cares if you live or die
They just want me gone
They want me gone

I'm coming home
I'm coming home
To make it all right
So dry your eyes

We think the same things at the same time
We just cant do anything about it

We think the same things at the same time
There are too many of us
So you can't count

It was a slippery slippery slippery slope
It was a slippery slippery slippery slope
I feel me slipping in and out of consciousness
I feel me slipping in and out of consciousness
standin above the crowd
he had a voice that was strong and loud and
i swallowed his facade cos i'm so
eager to identify with
someone above the crowd
someone who seemed to feel the same
someone prepared to lead the way

I hope everyone is having a great holiday

I. paradise
Boy:

I remember every little thing
As if it happened only yesterday
Parking by the lake
And there was not another car in sight
And I never had a girl
Looking any better than you did
And all the kids at school
They were wishing they were me that night

And now our bodies are oh so close and tight
It never felt so good, it never felt so right
And were glowing like the metal on the edge of a
Knife
Glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife
Cmon! hold on tight!
Cmon! hold on tight!
Though its cold and lonely in the deep dark night
I can see paradise by the dashboard light

Girl:
Aint no doubt about it
We were doubly blessed
Cause we were barely seventeen
And we were barely dressed

Aint no doubt about it
Baby got to go and shout it
Aint no doubt about it
We were doubly blessed

Boy:
Cause we were barely seventeen
And we were barely dressed

Baby doncha hear my heart
You got it drowning out the radio
Ive been waitin so long
For you to come along and have some fun

And I gotta let ya know
No youre never gonna regret it
So open up your eyes I got a big surprise
Itll feel all right
Well I wanna make your motor run

And now our bodies are oh so close and tight
It never felt so good, it never felt so right
And were glowing like the metal on the edge of a
Knife
Glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife
Cmon! hold on tight!
Cmon! hold on tight!

Though its cold and lonely in the deep dark night
I can see paradise by the dashboard light
Oh its cold and lonely in the deep dark night
Paradise by the dashboard light

You got to do what you can
And let mother nature do the rest
Aint no doubt about it
We were doubly blessed
Cause we were barely seventeen
And we were barely --

Were gonna go all the way tonight
Were gonna go all the way tonights the night

Were gonna go all the way tonight
Were gonna go all the way tonights the night

Were gonna go all the way tonight
Were gonna go all the way tonights the night

Were gonna go all the way tonight
Were gonna go all the way tonights the night

In the dirt - safe at third! holy cow, stolen base! hes taking a pretty big
Lead out there, almost daring him to try and pick him off. the pitcher glances
Over, winds up, and it bunted, bunted down the third base line, the suicide
Squeeze is on! here he comes, squeeze play, its gonna be close, heres the
Throw, heres th
E play at the plate, holy cow, I think hes gonna make it!

So now Im praying for the end of time
To hurry up and arrive
Cause if I gotta spend another minute with you
I dont think that I can really survive

"Know your Enemy" by Rage Against the Machine

(have been listening to this album lately....Never gets old!)

The final lines make you think....

Come on!
Yes I know my enemies
They're the teachers who taught me to fight me
Compromise, conformity, assimilation, submission
Ignorance, hypocrisy, brutality, the elite
All of which are American dreams (8 times)
All of which are American dreams
All of which are American dreams
All of which are American dreams
All of which are American dreams
All of which are American dreams
All of which are American dreams
All of which are American dreams

NoFX Leaving Jesusland

We call the heartland not very smartland, IQ's are very low but threat levels are high
They got a mandate, they don't want man-dates, they got so many hates and people to despise

In the dust bowl, cerebral black hole, the average weight is well over 200 pounds
I hate to generalize, but have you seen the thighs, most haven't seen their genitalia in a while

Maybe that's why they're so pissed at us
They're all jealous we're having better sex

Queers, transgends, and lesbians, vegans and vegetarians
All you brownish red and yellow ones come out and join us on the coast

No longer svelte, they gotta punch new holes in the Bible belt
They've blown out the fire under the melting pot, the red blood of America is starting to clot
No compromise, no sight thru others' eyes, they're just flies spreading pieces of shit
You gotta emigrate, stop living in hate, what makes this country great is dwelling on either side

They don't want visitors in Jesusland
They want life bland and canned in the fatherland

We want people with college degrees, drug use experience and STD's
People with open-minded philosophies, come hug California trees
Cultural revolution now, neo-conservatives run outta town
We're gonna burn Orange County down,
And then we're off to Riverside, Bakersfield and Fresno too, then we're comin' after you

The fear stricken, born again Christian, they got a vision a homogenized state
Texas textbooks, Bibles, and prayer books,
They want them memorized, but don't want you to think

They don't want visitors in Jesusland
They want life bland and canned in the fatherland

Punk Rockers and emo kids, people doin' things the church forbids
Buddhists, agnostics, and atheists we're moving out of jesusland
Art students and thespians, (excluding country) all the musicians
We want all hookers and comedians, nihilists are welcome too

No longer svelte, they gotta punch new holes in the Bible belt
They're gonna tell you where to walk
When to smile and just what to say
They say have your own fun...

Need vinyl, doggs.

(Come on, come on)
I see no changes, wake up in the morning and I ask myself
Is life worth living, or should I blast myself
I'm tired of being poor, and even worse I'm black
my stomach hurts, so I'm looking for a purse to snatch
Cops give a damn about a negro
pull a trigger, kill a nigger, he's a hero
Givin back to the kids, who the hell cares
one less hungry mouth on the welfare
first ship them dope, let them deal to brothers
give them guns, step back and watch them kill each other
It's time to fight back, that's what Huey said
2 shots in the dark, now Huey's dead
I got love for my brothers
but we can never go nowhere unless we share with each other
we gotta start makin changes
learn to see me as a brother instead of 2 distant strangers
and that's how it's supposed be
how can you tell them take a brother if he's close to me
I'd love to go back to when we played as kids
but things change, and that's the way it is
come on, come on
that's just the way it is
things will never be the same
that's just the way it is, ahh yeah

I see no changes
all I see is racist faces
misplaced hate, makes disgrace the racist
we under, I wonder what it takes to make this
one better place, let's erase the wasted
take the evil out the people, they'll be actin right
cuz both black and white are smokin crack tonight
and the only time we chill is when we kill each other
it's takes skill to be real, time to heal each other
and I know it's seems Heaven since
we aint ready, to see a black president
it aint a secret of a sealed up fact
penetentiarys packed, and it's filled with blacks
but some things will never change
tried to show another way, but ya stayin in the dope game
now tell me what's a mother to do?
being real don't appeal to the brother in you
- yeah -
You gotta operate the easy way
- I made a G today -
but you made it in a sleezy way
sellin crack to the kids
- I gotta get paid -
well hey, well that's the way it is
chorus

we gotta make a change
it's time for us as a people to start making some changes
let's change the way we eat
let's change the way live
let's change the way we treat each other
see our old way wasn't working
so it's on us to do what we gotta do
to survive

and still I see no changes, can't a brother get a little peace?
there's war on the streets
and the war in the Middle East
instead of war on poverty
they got a war on drugs so the police can bother me
and I aint never did a crime I aint have to do
but now I'm back from the locks givin back to you
don't let them jack you up
back you up
crack you up
and pimp smack you up
you gotta learn to hold your own
they get jealous when see you with your mobile phone
but tell the cops they can't touch this
I don't trust this
when they try to rush I bust this
that's the sound of my tool
you say it aint cool
but momma didn't raise no fool
and as long as I stay black
I gotta stay strapped
and I never get to lay back
cuz I always gotta worry bout the payback
some punk that I ruffed up way back
comin back after all these years
rat-tat-tat-tat-tat, that's the way it is
chorus
some things will never change
THANK YOU, LOSTDAWG!

Different Strings

Who's come to slay the dragon?
Come to watch him fall?
Making arrows out of pointed words
Giant killers at the call?
Too much fuss and bother
Too much contradiction and confusion
Peel away the mystery
Here's a clue to some real motivation

All there really is
The two of us
And we both know why we've come along
Nothing to explain
It's a part of us
To be found within a song

What happened to our innocence
Did it go out of style?
Along with our naivete
No longer a child
Different eyes see different things
Different hearts beat on different strings
But there are times
For you and me, when all such things agree

Prayer To St. Peter

Let them in, Peter
For they are very tired
Give them couches where the angels sleep
And light those fires
Let them wake whole again
To brand new dawns
Fired by the sun
Not war-times bloody guns
May their peace be deep
Remember where the broken bodies lie
God knows how young they were
To have to die

You know God knows how young they were
To have to die

Give them things they like
Let them make some noise
Give dance hall bands not golden harps
To these our boys
Let them love Peter
For they've had no time
They should have bird songs and trees
And hills to climb
The taste of summer
And a ripened pear
And girls as sweet as meadow wind
And flowing hair
And tell them how they are missed
But say not to fear
It's gonna be all right
With us down here

Let them in, Peter
For they are very tired
Give them couches where the angels sleep
And light those fires
Let them wake whole again
To brand new dawns
Fired by the sun
Not war-times bloody guns
May their peace be deep
Remember where the broken bodies lie
God knows how young they were
To have to die

You know God knows how young they were
To have to die

And tell them how they are missed
But say not to fear
It's gonna be all right
With us down here

It's gonna be all right
With us down here

See Off This Mountain

She's a Blue Ridge cradle
She's a mother to some
And home to the laughter
Of road weary ones

So we'll sing all the old songs
Sing to Grandmamma Road
And we'll sing cause we miss her
And we're sad she had to go

If I could see off this mountain, through the clouds in my eyes
I would see off this mountain, on the nights stars fell
And see off this mountain, through the tears in my eyes
I would see off this mountain, and the stars fell from the skies

In the air I hear a fiddle
Down along Hickory Way
And the mandolin guitar
Like we used to play

And down on Dunn's rock
Brothers boasting a dare
We tell them they're crazy
And pretend we don't care

If I could see off this mountain, through the clouds in my eyes
I would see off this mountain, on the nights stars fell
And see off this mountain, through the tears in my eyes
I would see off this mountain, and the stars fell from the skies

The air tastes like moonshine
In the wind a carnival tune
It soars with our laughter
But we'll all leave too soon

So I raise a toast to family
Put thanks in my glass
In the arms of your loved ones
It's the only home that lasts

If I could see off this mountain, through the clouds in my eyes
I would see off this mountain, on the nights stars fell
And see off this mountain, through the tears in my eyes

I could see off this mountain,

When the stars fell from the skies

When the stars fell from the skies

Going up to Grandmamma Road

Going up to Grandmamma Road

I'm happy as can be

'Cause can't you see

I'm going up to Grandmamma Road
