I don't have the answer... but there must be a better way... please post your ideas on how the merch situation can be improved to help out both the fans and the 10c...

I suggest a pre order option for the poster, shirt, and sticker for anyone that wins 10c tickets... no need to offer everything, but I think that would go a long way... then still sell everything at the show, I'm sure there will still be lines and lots of sales day of the show... then offer the remaining stock to all 10c members after the show just like is normally done... if you bought in the pre-order you are restricted from the larger 10c sale for 72 hours and then it opens for everyone again just in case to help get rid of all the stock... I would pay a little extra premium as well... who wouldn't pay $99 shipped for a bundle?

this helps 10c members actually going to the show... and I think this would also help 10c sales in the long run... a classic win-win

I know there are some great ideas out there? share them and maybe the 10c will like one of them

From a Business perspective it would not be in the merch dealer best interest. If there is a demand for something why stop? You must be doing something right. If they run out of stuff, you'll buy the other crap that doesn't sell. From a fan's perspective hell yes to pre order.

Preorders for merch would help. I would be willing to pay a premium - $35 for a poster at show - $50, $60, $70 via a pre-sale. I'd buy them blind too. There should be absolutely no excess inventory if the pre-sale is run right.

+1...out of hand going way back. Sidewalk sales just invite flippers, vs in the venue you at least have a ticket. Stop the madness!

the merch line will still be 100 deep by 10am at every show in the USA even if they offer a pre order... 100% no doubt about it...

They only did 5 and 6 posters casue it was the stadium shows I actually remeber in Mansfield for the 08 shows they gave you a wrist band when you went to buy the poster before the shows.... there was a line to pick up the posters after the show but it moved fast. This was a good idea in my opinion!

I think they'd be afraid the demand will slow down if they do this. Clearly Pearl Jam is more concerned with making every last buck over their fans standing in line for 7 hours bothering them.
  • I like it just the way it is.

People who are willing to wait in line for 7 hours for a poster with Harry Carey and Molly Ringwald on it ?

DESERVE to wait in line for 7 hours.

    DON'T CHANGE A THING!
    Take me piece by piece.....

They filmed the merch line with an extended selfie type stick in Ft Lauderdale then and replayed it on the big screen. Maybe they are taking pride in it. It was soo hot.

When we enter the lottery give us the option of buying the poster and show specific shirt and sticker with our tickets. There will still be enough demand at the booths day of show with all the flippers and people who had to get tickets through ticket master or stub hub.

Actually, that was the GA line they filmed, not the merch line. If you think it was hot in April, come on down now, the humidity has kicked into high gear.

Can't you just see Stone sitting in his hotel room with binoculors looking down at the masses in line laughing his ass off at the absurdity of people?

This has been said a lot and is a great idea.
Also would like to add another idea that maybe members current even if they don't have tickets on the day of a show have an option to buy the poster and shirt via the shop for that day only.

Wasn't there already a months-long poster preorder petition for Wrigley that went nowhere? 10C has no reason financially or logistically to change the way they do things.

Not to mention, let's imagine for a second that this did happen. Now imagine how many people would end up hating/regretting what they purchased sight unseen. How many posters or shirt designs did you see this tour where you said "oof, I would never buy that." Now 10C has to deal with X amount of emails asking for refunds, message board "petition to allow refunds!" threads, and unhappy entitled people who think everything should be amazing for them all the time and they now feel cheated because the poster they pre-ordered stinks.

I would also wager that the amount of 10C tickets allocated for a concert is more than the amount of posters they print for a concert, and definitely more than the amount of show-specific shirts they make. Now you're asking 10C to either greatly increase their production, or the 10C pre-order becomes a lottery, which leads to further complaining. If they wanted to increase production, they would just do it. It's not a new idea. So obviously they don't want to.

As much as I would love to pre-order a poster and a shirt, it just doesn't make sense for them to change the way they do things. Look at Wrigley. People are waiting 7 hours on a line for their stuff. That's their choice. Why stop them? It helps the band's image. "Look how dedicated and crazy our fans are!"

Oh, and as for my idea instead of just shooting down yours (nothing personal), my first suggestion would be to limit posters sold to 1 instead of 2. Other than that, PJ doesn't care if you're attending the concert or not, as evidenced by their merch trucks and pop up shops. If they did, I would suggest marking the back of your ticket stub after poster/shirt purchase so you couldn't buy again.

every ticket purchase should come with the option for ONE pre ordered item, then if you want more after that then stand in line
