How is there no Tampa tour stop?

I was thinking about this the other day and it makes no sense that Tampa is not a stop on the tour. How the Pearl Jam marketing team missed out on coming here makes no sense. Tampa was built for this album.

First off the arena has a lightning bolt sculpture out front!

Second the hockey team is the Tampa Bay Lightning!
lightning.jpg

Third, we have a machine inside the arena that actually creates Lightning!

Finally Florida is the Lightning capital of the world!

If there was ever a city and arena to bring this tour to, Tampa is it. How the tour did not start here I am not sure but I truly hope this oversight is fixed during a future tour leg.

  • Wow that is pretty perfect!
Eddie did say that they would be coming during his solo show last year in Orlando, maybe in spring or summer? I don't know but I am not leaving it to chance... heading up to New York this weekend! lol

But I'd love to see Pearl Jam in my home state and that Tampa stadium would be a perfect venue!

Had they known about the lightning Bolt, things might have been different. I was hoping for a Tampa show too.

I'm holding out hope that Tampa gets a show next spring. If not, I'm sure they'll come down to Fort Myers.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

I originally just clicked on the link because I've recently fallen in love with the 2000 Tampa show, but you made an air-tight case. Good on you.

Spent my whole life in New England and I have a lot of family from Florida and have spent a lot of time there, I'd rather shovel...

I completely agree. Tampa is the lightning capital of the US. This is an actual weather fact! :geek:

The last time they played Tampa I got stuck on the side of the road with car trouble in the middle of the state for a few minutes and there was so much lightning it was surreal. the weird thing is - there wasnt much rain. Ed even made a funny comment about how much lightning there was.

There's always a lot of lightning here. :D

I noticed this connection a while ago but I didn't mention it because I thought coming from me, a person who lives here, it might sound like I was just begging for a home-town show.

I'm glad someone ELSE pointed out how appropriate it would be for them to come here!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lived in the Tampa area for eight years and I'd rather shovel but to each their own.

Nicely done and I agree! Had a blast at the 2008 show, Eddie was like ummmm we're told we are playing in Tampa but the arena is called St. Pete Times Forum and there is a Canadian flag, where the F are we?!

Hope TPA gets another show soon!

Wow. Two pages of replies and no one knows the answer!!

Pj played Florida in 2012. One of 5 shows in the US last year.

That's why they skipped over Florida.

Although Tampa does have a very strong case for the lightning bolt tour!!

As a Floridian I do not necessarily consider Pensacola a part of the state but instead more of lower Alabama. Not knocking the area though given that i made the trek up there for PJs pro-choice concert many moons ago. I also don't think a one off festival date negates us from a future tour date. They will be here before the end of the tour.

The real issue though is how was such a marketing tie-in missed so badly given how much they are focused on marketing this time around?

To be honest, the New Orleans festival probably dictates they can't play dates in neighboring states since they feel it is reasonable for Floridians to go to New Orleans. Almost all festivals put stuff like that in their contracts.

for the record, it can take 6-7 hours to drive from south florida to north florida. If you want to hang a left and shoot along the panhandle, you're looking at 12-14 hours to get out of the state.

I didnt even feel that Pensacola counted as a Florida date.

I agree that Pensacola is South Alabama a not Florida.

BUT... Tampa has gotten the last three PJ shows (I think I'm right).

PJ needs to play Orlando in the new Arena. God knows the Magic won't be in the playoffs this year.
    92 - Orlando
    03 - Tampa
    08 - Tampa
    12 - DeLuna Fest, EV Orlando 1 & 2, EV Ft Lauderdale 1 & 2
    13 - Wrigley!!! ,Brooklyn 1 & 2, Hartford, OKC, Seattle
14 - Leeds, Milton Keynes, St Louis
    16 - Ft Lauderdale, Miami, Tampa, Jacksonville, Wrigley 1 & 2

Pensacola is an 8+ hour drive from here in Fort Myers so that's not nearly close enough for me. I'd drive to Tampa/St. Pete, Orlando or Miami/Fort Lauderdale/West Palm for a show. I have my limits.
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.

TAMPA/ANY AND ALL OF SOUTH FLORIDA BUMP!!!!!!!!!!

Now if PJ would just breeze through this lil euro swing and get back to touring the good ol' U S of A

Tampa should have been a staple on this tour considering some of the lightning bolt references already mentioned by the OP.
