I admit I am pretty ignorant when it comes to women in music. I hardly have any female artists in my iPod, other than like Madonna and Cyndi Lauper, lol. Do you have any you can recommend? Who's your favorite female performer?

I'll Ride The Wave Where It Takes Me
  • I'd say Sleater-Kinney, but I don't want to turn this thread into the usual "Corin Tucker can't sing" shit. (But seriously, they rock. :))

And Ani Difranco - I was introduced to her just recently. She's awesome. :)
Smokey Robinson constantly looks like he's trying to act natural after being accused of farting.
  • Any of these...

    Patti Smith
    Regina Spektor
    Sarah Harmer
    Damhnait Doyle
    Sarah Slean
    Janis Joplin
    Stevie Nicks
    K.D. Lang
    Kate Nash
    Pat Benatar
    PJ Harvey
    Ani DiFranco

  • I'd also recommend Bettye Lavette's Scene of the Crime album, with the Drive-By Truckers. Awesome. :)

There are a lot I like, but I grew up on Heart and they do the hard rock thing better than almost all bands - woman or man fronted.

Patti Smith. She rocks a lot harder at 60 than plenty of people half her age do. She's like Iggy Pop in that respect.

ah but the thread title is in the present tense :)

Phair hasn't 'rocked' for quite some time. She has 'sucked' though.
