okay, so i was listening to hallelujah, covered by jeff buckley...and noticed the first verse is

'well i heard there was a secret chord,
the day the played and pleased the lord (?)
but you dont really care for music do ya?
well it goes like this: the fourth, the fifth
the minor fall and the major lift'

and it occured to me that he's telling us how to play the secret chord. but i cant make sence of it....any one know how it is played?

thanks,
Lizi

that david played and it pleased the lord.

    is the correct lyric.

as for meanings, i'm really bad at song interpretations. :(

but i love playing this song.
  • so you can play it? well is it a secret chord then....coz when he says the fouth the fifth...that makes sence with the tune. then there is a minor, then a major-it all fits but i dunno how to do it.

the 4th and 5th the lyrics reference are the F and G that he plays under those words.. F major and G major are the 4th and 5th notes in the C major scale and the minor fall is down to the A minor.

not sure if that's what you're looking for tho :)

theory makes my head hurt. but yes, rick's right. the chords to the song itself are quite easy.
  • ahh, thank you very very much! much more simple than i thought it would be...so nothing much secret about it then, thats a shame-although at least i can play it now.

    thank you!!

    :)
  • that song's beautiful.. it's a cover though isn't it?

wish JB was still around... he'd be kicking arse right now

  • yeah it is a cover.

it would be great if he was still around, such a shame.

amazing how few people know who he is.
