That can’t be. There is a post about all the shows PJ is gonna play this year (even though historically they don’t play many or any shows after doing any big tours).

This thread makes way more sense than thinking PJ is touring in 2023

I don't really see that happening?  Matt has a gig, and being the drummer for two bigger bands, is going to cause conflicts.   Sort of like when Matt chose PJ over soundgarden on that one tour, and Soundgarden had to use another drummer.

Plus Matt is getting older.   The PJ of gig of infrequent and small tours that pay well, it's probably a pretty good gig when your in your 60s.   Foo Fighters tour a lot.. that can't be easy.

Yeah to be honest, this is the part that makes it really implausible, that they are choosing between Matt and the dude from Against Me. No offense to that musician, but Matt is a legend. If Matt were truly interested in this gig, Dave Grohl would have to think about it for about a millisecond before giving him the job.

Axl Rose toured with AC/DC for crissakes so it would be shocking but not impossible that Matt wants to tour more than the rest of Pearl Jam do, but there is no "honing down the list to two drummers" if Matt is on the list.

IMO Josh Freese is probably going to be the guy... it's very much his MO to jump in w/ a band for a year and then move on to something else.

Could be Matt is going to play a few shows with the other guy doing most and the media have just went with the honing down the list bit ?

If the article is true, I would note that FF only has 4 dates after August and if PJ is touring in Sept as has been speculated the other dude could drum for FF on those dates and/or PJ dates could be scheduled around the FF dates.  In other words Matt drumming for FF does not rule out anything that has been rumored for PJ this year.

Is it at all possible he wants to honor Taylor Hawkins and play a few dates?
  • josevolutionjosevolution Posts: 28,258
He might as well specially if PJ is not going to tour! He can just sit in I don’t think it would mean him becoming thee drummer! I have zero problem with this scenario

Toronto Sun says Matt is one of two likely drummers...and they say they have a source rather than just parroting another report.

    https://torontosun.com/entertainment/music/foo-fighters-on-verge-of-naming-drummers-as-taylor-hawkins-replacement?fbclid=IwAR1q0M6HMPnX-ndbYglWxtl4o78g-L2t3jehQJkX_CCDo4x-x6QoEhPuk-I

A source told The Sun about how 60-year-old Pearl Jam rocker Matt Cameron – who was a close friend of Taylor’s – and Angels and Airwaves drummer Atom Willard, 49, are in line to become his replacements for the shows: “The Foos have been working with a number of musicians close to Taylor and the band over the past few months.

“Matt and Atom are front runners to drum at the gigs, the first of which is in May.

“Primarily it will be Matt but Atom will be on rotation with him. They have both been rehearsing at Studio 606, the Foos’ studio.

The FF may need more than one drummer if Matt said he can't commit to playing with them full time. Soundgarden split tour dates between MC and Chamberlain for this reason, if I recall correctly.

It's a direct copy of the UK Sun article.. or the other way around. Either way basically the same "source" so who knows.

He’s loved by the fan base not sure how you perceive it differently! Me personally my favorite drummer is still JI but never hate on MC he’s been a solid drummer for them for so long.

I could see Matt playing with the Foos in May, June, and July and then turning it over to Atom for the August and September shows.
