The 2023 Tour Speculation Thread - Potential Dates/Cities, Logistics/Data & Wishlists **UPDATED**

**** UPDATED - 03/06/23 ****

*The April/May rumor hasn't quite panned out, but I'm including available May dates just in case. The focus of the thread will then shift to September on page 13.

This is a companion thread to the 2023 Rumor Thread. There's bound to be some leaks, or whispers over the next few months. But here, I want to use existing data, 2023 tours featuring their peers, previous PJ tour routes taken, and a few other things like promoters & favorite spots of the band. Again, no real rumors. Just possible routes (and a wishlist of sorts).

"Ya gotta spend it all"

First up, a redux of the excellent 2016 tour. I don't see the band doing more than 10-13 shows at a time per leg. I'd love to be proven wrong, but the band is in the next phase of their career. No more 30-34 song sets, no more 3 hours shows (again, if I'm wrong? Great!) They were able to maintain high energy shows with their current format, so I would expect a mix of hard-driving openers, and seated/acoustic starts.

Here's how 2016 Leg 1 played out:

Date City
Venue
Leg 1
April 08, 2016 Sunrise
BB&T Center
April 09, 2016 Miami American Airlines Arena (now FTX Arena)
April 11, 2016 Tampa Amalie Arena

April 16, 2016 Greenville Bon Secours Wellness Arena

So for 2023, if a similar scenario plays out, I don't see them hitting Canada for leg 1 since all 3 of those cities were tagged in 2022. If they do, it'll most likely be on the Western side of Canada (more on that later). For this model/pitch, I was* using 2023 New Orleans Jazz Festival (also a 2016 stop) as a tentpole, but they aren't in the lineup.

There's always room for festival dates, or special gigs like Third Man, but I feel this (or something like this) will be what we have in store.
If this isn't the plan, consider it a pitch ;)

Prospective 2023 Tour Leg 1, V.6 (aka "We Could All Use a Redux of the Last 7 Years")

1. Ft. Lauderdale, FL - FLA Live Arena (formerly BB&T Center)
current open dates: 04/30 - 05/19, and 05/21 - 06/04/23
- FtL could be a good spot to warm up, just like 2016. Taking the Tortuga Festival out of the mix since the headliners are all country. If they skip FtL, it's possible they could do 2 in Miami??

2. Miami, FL - Miami-Dade Arena (formerly American Airlines Arena, formerly FTX Arena whoops!), ASM Global
current open dates: 04/30 - 06/02/23
- Miami is a no-brainer. High energy crowd, tons of money to be made, and a happy promoter. The state of Florida, for all it's faults, is Pearl Jam country. The state is a red mess with blue freckles, and we need the boys back ASAP. The Miami Heat season ends on 04/09 with a home game. If they make the playoffs (50/50 chance), then that would narrow the field of possible dates. I suppose they could get Zo out of retirement?

3. Tampa, FL - Amalie Arena (formerly St. Pete Times Forum) tour stop for 22+ years, always a classic.
current open dates: 05/01 - 05/20, and 05/22 - 06/04/23
- Miami might bring the heat, but the best setlists in Florida happen in Tampa. Recently booked events: NCAA basketball, 98 Rockfest & New Edition.

4. Orlando, FL -  Amway Center (hey, it's on the way) - last tour stop in Orlando was a private show at the House of Blues in 2003 - 20th anniversary??
current open dates, Amway Center: 05/01 - 05/11, 05/15 - 05/24, 05/26 - 06/04/23
House of Blues, Lake Buena Vista: 05/01 - 05/04, 05/07 - 05/11, 05/14 - 05/16, 05/18, 05/20 & 05/21, 05/26 - 05/30, 06/01, 06/03 & 06/04

- Orlando is the most progressive city in Florida, and even though the Amway Center is owned by the DeVos family, I'd love to see them play there & just absolutely trash them (and Amway itself, lol). Other possible venues:
  • ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex (Lake Buena Vista) - capacity; 7,500 seats + 3,000-3,500 field capacity = 10,500-11,000
  • Addition Financial Arena (UCF) - capacity: 9,400
  • Silver Spurs Arena (Kissimmee) - capacity: 8,000 (site of their VFC concert in 2004, also part of the ASM Global network)
  • House of Blues Orlando (Lake Buena Vista, 10C show?) - capacity: 2,500+ (site of their exclusive show that streamed 20 years ago on RealPlayer, live in 2003)

5. Jacksonville, FL - Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena, ASM Global
current open dates: 05/01 - 05/03, 05/05 - 05/19, 05/21 & 05/22, and 05/24 - 06/04/23
- another 2016 stop, and a good venue to cap off what could be a hell of a Florida run (unless they go to Pensacola, or Mobile... both of which have an ASM venue).

6. Atlanta, GA - State Farm Arena, or Alpharetta, GA - Ameris Bank Amphitheatre (formerly Verizon Amphitheatre)
current open dates, State Farm Arena: 05/01 - 05/18, 05/20 & 05/21, 05/23 & 05/24, and 05/26 - 06/04/23
current open dates, Amphitheatre: 05/01 - 05/05, 05/07 - 05/12, 05/14 - 05/17, 05/19, and 05/22 - 06/04/23
- PJ haven't played Atlanta in almost 10 years. The 2016 path took them from Jacksonville to Greenville, SC to Hampton, VA back to Columbia, SC then down to NOLA.

7. Greenville, SC - Bon Secours Arena
current open dates: 05/01 - 05/12, and 05/14 - 06/04/23
- Ah, Greenville. My favorite album was played there in it's entirety in 2016 (GO TO EVERY SHOW!)

8. Charlotte, NC - Spectrum Center, or Raleigh, NC - PNC Arena
current open dates, Spectrum Center: 05/01 - 05/05, 05/07 - 05/20, 05/22, and 05/24 - 06/04/23
current open dates, PNC Arena: 05/01 - 05/09, 05/11, and 05/13 - 06/04/23
- time to make-up for Raleigh? Or skip it & start over fresh in Charlotte. Both have high-capacity arenas, and they're both on the way to Virginia & MD.

9. Hampton, VA - Hampton Coliseum (classic venue), or Charlottesville, VA - John Paul Jones Arena, ASM Global
current open dates, Hampton Coliseum: 05/01 - 05/13, 05/15 - 05/20, and 05/22 - 06/04/23
current open dates, John Paul Jones: 05/01 - 05/09, 05/11, and 05/14 - 06/04/23
- Hampton was a 2016 stop, and is a legendary music venue, but I wouldn't be surprised if the band played a nearby ASM arena instead (no relation to the Led Zeppelin bassist, lol).

10. Washington D.C. - Capital One Arena (formerly the Verizon Center), or D.C. Entertainment & Sports Arena (ASM Global)
current open dates, Capital One Arena: 05/01 - 05/15, 05/17 - 05/19, 05/21 & 05/22, and 05/24 - 06/01
current open dates, DC Ent. & Sports Arena: 05/01 - 06/04/23
- If you think they won't get political in D.C., I don't know what band you think this is, lol.

11. (and 12?). Baltimore, MD - Oriole Park at Camden Yards, or CFG Bank Arena (formerly Royal Farms Arena)
current open dates, Camden Yards: 04/27 - 05/07, 05/19 - 05/25/23, and 06/01 - 06/08/23 = gotta play two!
current open dates, CFG Bank Arena: 05/01 & 05/02, 05/04 - 05/08, 05/10 - 05/12, 05/15 - 05/25, 06/01, 06/03 & 06/04

- - possible venues:
  • Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore, MD (another legendary ballpark) 45,971
  • Merriweather Post Ampitheatre, Columbia, MD (would be legendary) 19,319
  • Baltimore Arena/Royal Farms Arena (the cancelled 2020/2022 show, yeah... it's a hornet's nest, but let's help break in the new arena, yeah?) 14,000
:end of Leg 1:
Fingers crossed!

That will either be Leg 1, V.2, or part of my Leg 2 pitch/spec. Ohio for sure. Starting, or ending in Chicago.

Probably too many repeats from 2016. While it would be cool to see them at an amp in Atlanta, I think State Farm is more likely. Unfortunately I also think Truist park is becoming more likely by the year.

I think New Orleans and Birmingham would be in play for next leg. Could see it swinging from New Orleans, to Birmingham, to Atlanta to Charleston, to Raleigh, and then who knows from there.

edit: and to top it off they might as well start that little sequence of mine above in Houston. What a cool tour that would be.

I’m wondering to which point the results of the midterms will impact their decision where to go and not to go. Five Florida dates sure seems like a lot.

Admittedly so, but I'm trying to will it into existence😅Most likely would just be Tampa again, but Bruce is doing both, so there's a glimmer of hope!

I'm leaning more towards State Farm Arena, than Truist. They might take umbrage with the whole Braves thing. NOLA is definitely in play, just remains to be seen if they'd do the Jazz Festival, or Smoothie King Center (also run by ASM). Birmingham's a long shot, but maybe Mobile? ASM runs the Civic Center & it houses about 10,112 give or take a few with GA. Kevin Hart & Jason Isabell are set to perform there. Regardless, been a minute since they hit 'Bama. I've got a Texas scenario in the works, too!

Valid point. DeSantis is a clown. We're all pretty much fending for ourselves right now with the hurricane. It's pretty much FEMA coordinating with local governments & major employers because the ill-fitting suit refused to call Biden first. So Biden just called & sent aid anyway. Unlike TFG, who would make you beg.
I can see the band coming here regardless. Either to celebrate the state heading in the right direction, or to keep hope alive until we have real leadership in place.

It was during the recording of Backspacer. O’Brien lives here. As a native Atlantan, that was embarrassing. They did play in 2012 after the incident though.

still shocked they haven't played Citizens Bank Park in Philly yet.  CBP hosts like 5 shows a year.  This year had Dead & Company, Def Leppard/Motely Crue, and the Chilli Peppers at different times.   Wonder if it's a ticketing issue or just haven't made the time fit with it yet.  Be surprised it doesn't happen at some point.

Citi Field in NYC also hosts a bunch of shows each year. Although I’d rather see them again at MSG or Barclays.
