I want to start by saying I love PJ and their shows. I seen PJ twice in my life and it was back to back shows at Fenway. I am going to the Vegas show on 5/20/2022. Although the shows are great and sound great I was disappointed after the first Fenway show. i was disappointed because I didnt hear all of their hits. I had to go to the second show to hear the hits they did not play in the first. Lets face we go to hear the hits as well as other songs. We pay a lot of $$$$ for their shows, more than most artists and to not hear all their hits at each show is just robbery! Some of us dont have the $$$ to go to back to back shows. Also you they tour so infrequently that you could go to many shows and still not hear the hits! My friend is going to the Vegas show with me and she has never seen PJ and I know she will be disappointed when they don't play all of their hits.I am begging you PJ to play all the hits that every fan wants to hear, please!!! I love your music!!

Good luck with that on this forum...and yet it's funny, I'm bringing my 19-year-old to his first PJ show (he was just getting into music in 2013 when they last toured) so I'm actually hoping they play "Ledbetter," "Jeremy," "Daughter," "Better Man," "Last Kiss" and all the others that are usually such a buzz kill for jaded me after dozens of shows...so bring on the hits in Oakland!

Some hits.  Not all the hits.

If you are going to a Pearl Jam show expecting to hear all of the hits, you are setting yourself up for disappointment.  This can't happen with a group that mixes up its set lists.  You should go see Billy Joel instead.

They charge less than most artists of their stature. I know there are "premium" seats now. But those are not the majority. Also they have a lot of "hits". 33 that were on their greatest hits albums. Plus 4 albums worth of hits after. And a lot of their deep tracks are loved by the fans. They do put in their a few hits to appease the casual fan. But if you want a greatest hits tour. Probably not the band to do it. But you never know

I thought I was going to agree with this thread when I saw the title.
But as someone who will never complain when Even Flow is played, I can’t agree with your statements. I wouldn’t want all the hits every show. There would be almost zero diversity each night. And there’s plenty of amazing PJ songs that aren’t “hits.” I don’t think Present Tense ever got radio play, probably isn’t known outside their fan base, but it’s a top 10 song for me.
I love the hits. They’re hits for a reason, so give me lots of them at a show. I never get excited about a song just because I never heard it live before. I’m not a fan of rarities for the sake of rarefied and stats. But it can’t be all the hits all the time. That would get boring for the fans and the band.

Similar situation, but brining my 12 year old and twin 8 year olds. They have been listening to my standard concert going songs for this tour "small town" "even flow" "alive" "corduroy" "gigaton"

Though my daughter would love to hear "Last Kiss", I know it's a cover but it is a bad time song.

Will be show 79 and 80 for me and number 1 & 2 for my kids. Just love the opportunity to experience my favorite band with them. Wasn't sure this day would ever happen, so agreed bring on the hits or better yet. Play what inspires you to put on the best show possible. If the band is engaged my kids will be hooked and that's the goal. I need some tour buddies to get me to 100.

Eddie is the one who is changing up setlists. So it wouldn't be him. I believe Stone said he would have been fine just playing the hits.

Love it. Was around some fans on Night 2 LA and they asked my thought for an opener my response was.

    House lights on play "Alive"

  • I am so happy that Pearl Jam(Ed or whoever)view all of the songs that they have created as unique, worthy in their own way.  I would have stopped listening a long time ago if it was just the hits. Variety is the spice of life.  It makes their catalog of bootlegs so much more interesting.

You and your friend may want to familiarize yourself with their other songs. You will get lots of hits too. Have fun!

Agree.  Dirty Frank was played about every night during Ed’s solo tour.  If he didn’t want to play it with PJ I am sure he wouldn’t have played it just because of two RHCP members in the group.

@Gccastillo  Don’t be greedy for the hits. I also want to hear Brother, Other Side, and Strangest Tribe. Like the other dude said, learn their other songs too.

PJ's live setlists have been the key to their longevity & dedicated fan base. That being said I can see how casual fans of the band can come away disappointed from a live show due to the varied setlists and limited stage show. I have always enjoyed the unique setlists because I have been fortunate enough to see them live many times and I would never have done that if it was the same show every night. With the huge catalog that they now have I think PJ should experiment with something Rush did for many years and that is performing a medley or two of several of their songs (not just a "tag").This way fans could hear more of the hits at each show just not the entire song. Best of both worlds lots of hits for the newbies and rarities for die hards.

So, here's the thing, I see where the OP is coming from, iv always had a similar opinion on that. Pearl Jam shows are always going to have at least half full shows of first time concert goers. Iv always thought,  as long as they play Alive, Evenflow, Black, Jeremy, Betterman, Daughter, Given to fly, then mix Elderly woman/or Corduroy/or DTE/or RVM   and end w YLB,  those first timers will leave the arena thinking it was a bad ass show. That's only 9 songs,  that still  leaves 15 songs of whatever else you guys want to hear to appease the hard core PJ concert travelers, 25 songs if they still played the 33-35 set list shows!

I took my daughter to her first show PHX this Monday and she was super happy because they played all her favorites minus Jeremy. Again, she's a newbie, those are the songs non hard-core fans want to hear. I don't really take friends to shows, iv been to 10, because I feel like they will disappointed for that same reason. I was crossing my fingers for my daughter's. I took a good buddy of mine to a show years back and he was like, "bro, how can you attend a PJ show and them not play evenflow or black?!?" 😅
