I really like this band. I love the feeling they exude. I picture a bunch a youngsters in boarding schools in britain listening to this band.

Blue Light, Song for Clay, Hunting for Witches all are great tracks

    oh dear..
  • i take it you dont like them?

It seems Silent Alarm, at the very least was one of the best albums of 2005 and one of the more critically revered

I listen to all sorts of music from rock/grunge/indie to electronica/techno, ranging from 60's to present, and Silent Alarm is without doubt one of my favourite all time albums. Was so fresh when it came out, and the drumming on that album is unbelievable. Its an album i can honestly i say i love every song, it is as close to perfect as possible for me. I know other people seem to bash them on here but i think they deserve a lot of credit for Silent Alarm.

I think aside from a couple songs the new album is rubbish though im saddened to say.

I also love Silent Alarm. At first I didn't like the new album, but it has grown on me, particularly the first half. I saw them at a club in DC on their tour supporting Silent Alarm and they put on a great show. If you are interested or just bored at work, you can actually listen to it here.

oh dear indeed,i love the way you exude stereotypes.
  • shut up biffy. We all get mental pictures of things when we listen to music. What did I say that was stereotypical? Its what I envision when I listen to the music!

Number one on the first album Like Eating Glass is probably my favourite Bloc Party song, love that song. Also think This Modern Love is great as well, and the drumming in Lono is amazing. I heard the drummer suffered a collapsed lung during a live show earlier in the year which doesnt surprise me, he really goes for it!! The only song from the second album i think is at the same level of Silent Alarm is Kreuzberg. Honestly think the 2nd Bloc Party album was the most hugely dissapointing follow up id ever heard. Listened to it quite a lot but its really not for me.

Ive just put it on again in the vain hope that it can win me over but even just hearing the start of Kele's singing in the first song puts me off!!

    AGREED.

My collection (both record and ticket stub) ranges from Megadeth and Sabbath to Badly Drawn Boy and Jeff Buckley. Don't hate on people's taste.

These guys have put on some amazing shows, and now that I think of it, i've seen them 4 times and each time, they were great or better, one time hitting phenominal (Coachella '05) .... Kele's got to be the only "rock star" that actually smiles a TON during sets, and it's kind of refreshing.

Silent Alarm is a fantastic album ... and agreed ... Weekend in The City is a pretty disappointing follow up.

  • If ever there was the definition of a band who grow on you then I think it's Bloc Party.

I bought Silent Alarm two years ago on the back of their single Two More Years and its taken until now for me to really appreciate what a stunning record and really talented band they are.

So Here We Are is my favourite by them :)

yeah, it took a while for that album to grow on me as well. it was so different from the first. now i love it.

i saw them live too. the sound levels weren't great (couldn't hear the singer at all), but they still put on a helluva show.

my silent alaram is scratched and won't rip onto my mac anymore :(

I'm really liking the new album!!!
It's definitely different than their older stuff - more mature I guess is a good description??
Saw them on New Years Day here in Oz and thought the new lineup sounded great

i think the departure of some the members and line-up changes definitely changed the sound. I'll have to lsiten to it a few more times but after one listen i thought it was ok.

Caught them on the Silent Alarm anniversary tour just a couple months before the pandemic hit. They were fantastic that night, and maybe that tour reinvigorated them to try that type of music again.
