Amazing night. We got to the festival at the beginning of Glen's set. Glen jumping like Ed and trying to get Danny Clinch's attention was hilarious. We really enjoyed Spoon and Maggie Rogers, too.

EV and the Earthlings sounded great. I was hoping for another crack at Purple Rain :)

Two great nights so far and PJ tomorrow 🤘

Great show with some really great moments. This was my 3rd time seeing Eddie solo. Don’t be shy to open was a highlight as I had not got to see that one yet and caught me by surprise. Wishlist is one of my faves, and at the end he hit the wrong chord and said “I let you down!” as it was going into the “I’ll never let you down” part. I’ll Be Waiting is my favorite tune on Flag Day so it was cool to see them debut that. Hard Sun may have been the highlight for me. They rocked it hard. Josh and Andrew were having a great time and playing the shit out of their guitars all night long and Chad was rocking too. Knocked all his drums over at the end of the show. Good time and tonight I get to go to my 20th PJ show which I’ve been waiting 3 years and 2 canceled shows for, so I’m pretty freaking excited!

I assume Hard Sun is now done without the backing track?

From where we were sitting (VIP section, hanging back), the sound mixing felt off. The first songs sounded great, but once the full band was on stage there was so much bass/drums that it was hard to hear vocals or guitar or anything else. E.g. Olivia seemed to do a nice job on "My Father's Daughter," but it was a challenge to hear her, same with Ed on "Hard Sun;" meanwhile my rib cage was vibrating along with the bass.

That is correct. And they rocked it harder than the original for sure. I thought it sounded great. Even though Ed did mess it up at one point and went into the wrong verse. I loved it.

No one wants to comment on the Halves?
Hmm. It was cool to see its live debut! I’ll say that. Looking forward to hearing the studio version. Had a different sound to it. Someone else can share more. Hard to remember exactly how it went. Didn’t sound very Pearl Jammy. Should be an interesting album.

    Oh please
  • 3 years since Seattle and lot of shit in between… great to see ya Ed! Ya look happy! It’s now a family gig!

The set was a surprise. New songs, new album and new peeps to play with… all an Ed fan could ask for as he’s been busy. Solo shows in a festival setting to me aren’t personal enough for the type of songs Ed writes (needs a small indoor venue) but the set was meant to be a “happy to be playing” vibe… and it worked to perfection.

    Highlights:
Don’t Be Shy - I’m never gonna’ be shy about my love for your music… belted this one to start. Feeling good…

Society - As an “older” fan, watching 4 twenty year olds belt this one out was nice to see… this music is not just for olds!!??

Drive - This one hit me like a ton of bricks. The studio version doesn’t come close to the REM original, but hearing it live, wow!!!!… it’s easy to see the decision to put it out (haven’t seen the movie).

Looking forward to hearing the full band today… recognizing today that missing out on PJ therapy sessions the past few years wears heavy. Can’t stop smiling today.

Request for today: In My Tree

    Cheers,

Wow, listening to that live clip. The Haves I definitely interesting. This whole album coming is something else. I have to imagine PJ has cooked up some stuff for a new album too.. A lot of music swirling around, this is great!

Yes it is right on the beach. Wind had died down by then though, as the marine layer had moved in.

Chad's bass drum volume was way too loud. He played very "busy" throughout the night. While I appreciated the energy of the drumming, In my opinion, it didn't serve a lot of of the songs very well and actually detracted from the vocals. I expect a much more controlled performance from Matt tonight.

I was in the lower part of the VIP and thought the sound was great until it got louder and louder and then it seemed that Eddie's vocals got lost in the mix.

I stood next to the VIP bleachers on night 1 in the GA area and Chad's drums were definitely loud.  I moved to the bleachers in the back for night 2 and it sounded way better.

Slightly spoiled tonight’s set by watching the soundcheck/private show Thursday and EV’s Friday set. But any chance to see Eddie, Glen and others interact and the random moments (EV tripping up on Wishlist at “never let you down”) reminds me why seeing multiple shows is worth it.

If anything, seeing Eddie bring his kids on stage to perform has been the real treat. Harper looked timid but Eddie did typical dad things (making faces, playfully leaning against her) to make her comfortable.

It’s always tough to gauge new tracks live before you can buy/stream them, but I’m guessing “The Haves” will connect at some point in time. Tons of new music to process between Earthlings, Flag Day and Gigaton since our last live shows. Excited to see a proper Pearl Jam setup tonight!

DMB/Dave solo, Phish/Trey Anastasio Band, Foo Fighters/NHC/countless side projects - all played (or will play) shows this year.
    Sure, bud.
Anywho, I'm loving the Earthlings. There's room for side projects from every member of PJ (considering every single one of them has one or two). Let them do what they wanna do, and you can like it, or go listen to Mike Love's Beach Boys do the same 15 songs (in order) every summer.
From the snippets I've heard, I love Purple Rain, the Flag Day stuff, and Should I Stay flat out rocked B)
Do what you wanna do, and play what you wanna play, Ed. We love ya.

In general this is how Chad Smith plays and has always played. I don't love it, I don't think it especially serves the song; works more for RHCP because everyone in the band kind of plays that way all the time but in the case of what I've heard of the Vedder solo stuff — sort of Petty-leaning, lyric-focused songs — Smith would not be my choice as a drummer. If you're going to have Pino Palladino out there, get Steve Jordan on the kit.

I'll wait for the record to listen a bit closer but on first blush rhyming "above" with "above" and leading into "the haves have not / got half of what we've got" is... maybe not the best writing of Ed's career.

Indeed. Not my favorite of his either, though I do love the overall Petty vibe off that tune. Sounds like a lost track from Highway Companion.

Troubled souls unite...thankful for this thread, but any more info on the haves would be stellar!

I'll wait for the record to listen a bit closer but on first blush rhyming "above" with "above" and leading into "the haves have not / got half of what we've got" is... maybe not the best writing of Ed's career.
He also rhymes “way” with “way” on Long Way… in the chorus over and over.
Indeed. Not my favorite of his either, though I do love the overall Petty vibe off that tune. Sounds like a lost track from Highway Companion.
Oh yes to be clear I was agreeing with your criticism. 👍🏻
