    No Code -> Yield
    No Code to Yield for me. I was thinking Vitalogy to No Code but Vitalogy was the start of some experimental shit. Yield to Binaural could also be the right answer in terms of different styles

    Ten -> Vs.
    I think Vitalogy to No Code may be the most obvious, but I think Ten to Vs was very significant to set them up on the rest of their career. Daughter, Small Town, WMA, Indifference.... I am not sure any of these would work on Ten, so I think right off the bat, it showed they had no interest in Ten 2, but rather they were going to go wherever the music took them, and they have stayed true to that ever since.
    words seem so out of place.

    my choice would be Ten to Vs. as well. I absolutely LOVED Vs. the night it came out, and still do to this day, but I think it was a crazy shift away from Ten.

    Hmmmm, I instinctively said V-> NC, but Upon reflection it is Ten to Vs.

    Also, upon reflection, Gigaton seem more like a logical follow up to Riot Act. s/t/BS/LB are more by the numbers for them and are the real outliers in the catalog.

    Pearl Jam (Avocado) -> Backspacer
    The move to some more pop / new wave stuff. Plus the acoustic Eddie songs on his own.  Felt like a shift in mood as well as musical direction.  I know it is not part of the question but also the new approach to touring..
    Has been my least favourite change.

    Agreed. It doesn’t stand up at all in a run of albums and struggles as a stand-alone piece.

    Biggest musical shift is definitely Self Titled to Backspacer.

    Biggest production shift is Ten to Vs.

    Biggest mood shift is Vitalogy to No Code, with Yield to Binaural a close second (dark to philosophical then philosophical back to dark with the latter)
    His eminence has yet to show.

    No wrong answers here. Evolution is the best thing about this band. If Vs would have been an attempt to duplicate Ten, I don’t know if PJ would have entered the 21st century.

    Yield to binaural for the songs as well as each tour.

    Faster, more aggressive, WMA, way less reverb.

    Pearl Jam became Pearl Jam playing Ten live and then leading into the Vs era. Imagine if they had recorded Ten with Dave A. and Brendan O’?

    This is actually tougher than it first appeared. You could make a good argument for many of these but I think Vitalogy to No Code edges out Yield to Binaural.

    There is a change between those records, but not as significant as the others listed.

    Yes. But they don’t sound like anything before those records, so fans hate them. There is a great hard rock record between the two and an interesting EP and maybe 4-5 that can go away. They are due for a critical reevaluation.

    agreed. i actually really liked that era. i love when bands evolve and challenge themselves and their audience. i was a tad disappointed when they went back to their classic era.
