No hate for the op, just so much confusion on what he wants. He refused my offer at xxxx amount, then he offered it to someone on eBay for $500 less then my offer. And as we messaged, and I was waiting for him to send me pics he puts it on eBay.  What if I agreed on his asking but he got a better offer on eBay??
he posted a price, $2000. So he knows he has a desirable poster, and knows enough to ask $2000
Its not like he was asking $500.
I hope he gets a amount he’s happy with and has a amazing time in Europe. But maybe a little research would have helped him.

All that confusion sounds like he really was uniformed about the real value.

In any case... it seems like eBay is the best place for it as auctions aren’t allowed here and he probably unintentionally created an avalanche of PM’s after he posted.
100%. That’s why I have no hate/anger for the op. Now for the real question, does he have a chief foil? 😁

Is otter playing us a fool, and trying to get a bidding war 😳
I placed a $2,000 bid and the reserve was gone. Then retracted immediately.

The $4,900 average is severely skewed by two outliers: a uniquely custom-doodled and hand-colored one from Emek that auctioned for $8,600 and a questionable $5,995 ebay "sale" which probably wasn't paid because there's still an active ebay listing for the same price.

A signed/doodled one like the OP's sold on August 11 for $2k (and another two weeks later for $3k). I paid $2k for a signed/doodled last December and bought and sold an unsigned to a member here for $1,900 in March. So his original asking price of $2k is probably low but not absurdly low. Agree though that since he apparently wanted to auction it, this isn't the place.

I suspect part of the sudden avalanche was due to a trade post in another group offering a PJ20 Billboard for a 96 Charlotte, which the guy then said he didn't really want to give up.

Good info.  It will be interesting to see where that eBay auction ends up.

  • Sean beat me to it. Yes the $8600 sale should not count towards the average ebeans price because it wasn't the average poster. I don't have a pic unfortunately, but this thing was doodled like nothing I have ever seen before. All the boarders were covered in trademark Emek doodles opposed to a single or a bit extra that we normally see. I don't know about the $5995, but without the $8600 bringing up the average drastically, this poster should fall in the $2500-$3500 range pending the condition. It almost seems like every time there is a 'high end' poster for sale, people raise the price by a few hundred to set a new high even if the last time one sold for was only a month or two ago.

This part is both frustrating and strange. There is very little patience from collectors right now. Everyone just wants to set a record now.

What'd be really great is if no one shared their prices.

Or would it keep prices lower, which I thought was BF's point. If past sales weren't available would any potential buyer really believe that $4,900 might be a reasonable price for a $35 concert poster?

No you'd only see that auctioned price and think it goes for that much or be misinformed and use the ebeans average.

When those 7" box sets were all the rage people paid a ton for them because no one was reporting on the pricing.  I thought they should only be $500 or so and when more became available the bidding on them dropped to as low as $300 for a set that once went for 2k.

The ebeans average is based on people reporting on the pricing. If that didn't exist, would people pay more or less? Don't know. If more became available then the price dropped because the supply/demand factor changed, not because of data.

$2150 sale price, $1872 after fees. Let this be a lesson, kids. Backing out of a deal doesn't pay. Don't believe everything you see on ebeans. And don't end an auction on a Tuesday morning 😂

should’ve put his reserve at $3000 if that’s what he was looking for.

To be honest I thought he would have gotten at least $2500 for it.

Or people could unknowingly overpay for other posters if they don’t have an idea of recent sales.
