Keep in mind that the deals to use this songs were likely in place back in March.  The season was supposed to begin March 26, which would have been followed by the release of Gigaton on March 27.

Having said that, I don't think there's much evidence that this kind of promotion drives much sales or streaming activity for the band.  Very few people even know what they're hearing.  But it does give the band a paycheck, which is nice.  It's such a waste of the networks' money; it has no meaningful effect on the audience for their baseball coverage.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

Oh yeah this was totally set up for end of March for sure. But I disagree that seeing the band and hearing them on ESPN, Fox Sports and MLB Network from Thursday through Monday doesn’t get things moving even slightly. Take Present Tense from The Last Dance for example, it’s sales were in the top 200 on iTunes and Amazon music for weeks after the show premiered. For the non-fanatic, it could be a trigger to be like, oh yeah I want to get Vitalogy, VS. etc, on my new phone.

"Present Tense" played at length over a scene that culminated a highly-watched miniseries, and that got it into the top 200.  In other words, a high-profile placement generated a limited effect.  (Did this actually last for weeks, by the way?)  The PJ songs featured on the MLB promos are background music on interstitial promos, not easily identifiable as PJ unless you already know who it is.  You can hear some guitar and Eddie singing "gave up on satisfaction" (apropos of nothing).  The number of people who are going to: 1) hear that, 2) say "that's cool, let me figure out what that is"; and 3) go stream or buy it would be minimal.  Ask yourself how many times you've bought or streamed something because you heard it playing in the background of a TV promo for a few seconds.  I'm guessing it's rare, if it's ever even happened.

Not weeks. But days maybe a little over a week. Spotify streams have gone up over 2 million since the release. I think part of why it didn't stay on the charts longer is because it's not a known song among casual fans. It's also not as pop as "Don't Stop Believing" for example. But it did well.

Because they have a budget for promotion, and they need to spend it, and they aren't clever enough to think of a better way.*  Some of it also a vestige of a different time when these things might have made more of a difference.  But think about it.  Who is going to be compelled to watch a baseball game, that wasn't already planning to watch it, just because a few seconds of rock-and-roll played in the background of a promo?  If you like baseball, and you don't feel like there's another entertainment option that's better, you'll watch baseball.  If you don't like baseball, five seconds of Pearl Jam is not going to convince you devote three hours of your evening to watching it.

By the way, you're addressing the inverse of the original question in this post-- the original question was about what PJ gets out of it, but this post asks what FOX or ESPN gets out of it?  It's pretty clear what PJ gets out of it. They get paid a licensing fee, and if fifty or a hundred or a thousand people buy the record on top of that, even better.

I guess in theory they get PJ fans to tune in. Someone above mentioned a snippet on MLB Central I had no clue about so I recorded and watched, I guess watching some commercials along the way. I’m just glad they are still around and relevant. It’s cool to see “your” bands music playing on tv in 2020. I feel like the band is more popular now than at any point after 1998ish.

I don’t know...I’ve bought a lot of songs with the help of Shazam this way.  I think it happens more than you think.
