Main. It's probably the first time in 25 years that the OG channel aired the Pearl Jam Unplugged

Tuned in at 9:05 per the advertised start time only to find I had missed "Oceans" and the first half of SOLAT. Grrr! Still rocked, though. And I was digging on the old MTV ads as well. Then followed by The State. Total flashback.

It had the MTV 2000 music awards (RATM & RHCP) on too. Would really like to see the 1992 & 1993 awards.

They didn't play Oceans. It started with SOLAT. Oceans didn't make it in the broadcast

    That was fun.
They played the Real World NYC for a few hours during the day.  The late 90s VMAs are jarring to watch now.  Two great Unpluggeds and then The State!

Pity they didn’t up the quality of the actual programme. It was literally like watching it in the 90’s.

I think Neil Young did it twice. One of them was really good. This is one song https://youtu.be/EMXvJEB7ue8

He did one at least alright. Think REM, Lenny Kravitz, Clapton all did it, if memory serves me right.

According to Wkipedia he did. The first one never aired.

I was surprised to learn that they shave done unplugged episodes until 2019. I thought this was over in the late 90s. Liam Gallagher did one last year and it’s out on vinyl (and a hot item) according to Discogs.

Yes. I have the Neil Young Unplugged on CD. It is amazing.

It's hard to believe they took a break from their Ridiculousness marathons to play some actual music. MTV Live plays old Unplugged episodes occasionally, but they've never played Pearl Jam afaik.

I don't really see the big deal that MTV played it. MTV hasn't been relevant in ages and i'm pretty sure the performance is on youtube now. Someone explain this to me? I saw a ton of people were posting it on one of the facebook groups.

I don't get it either.   It's on DVD (in the boxset.. which contains an extra song), it's on youtube, and its easy to find a grey market digital copy.   I'm so used to the modern era of having everything you want at your fingertips, that I forget lot's of people still enjoy old school cable.

I think its just surprising and a nice flashback. Other than the commercial breaks it was like being a teen again.
The Real Worlds they were playing on Friday were more fun than Unplugged honestly.

They played a lot of the early Real Worlds when they rebranded VH1 Classic to MTV Classic.

They can't make potentially new fans from someone watching from their own dvd. Well more than one could.

I guess?  I'm not sure what MTV's demographic is these days.   I assumed young people would turn it off as dad rock, the same way I would turn off pop music as it's not my thing (regardless of the quality in that respective genre).

I think we were more or less speculating on why PJ fans were getting excited about it being on MTV, when they can watch it anytime they want.   I think the poster a few posts up explained it best.   Watching it on cable is a nostalgia trip that makes one feel young again :)
