New Wave...

BrainofBGABrainofBGA Australia Posts: 3,897
I’ve Heard the term New Wave mentioned in regards to some influence on the upcoming record.

Which bands come to mind when New Wave is mentioned? What bands may have influenced PJ?

Public Image Ltd. (some people consider them “post-punk” but I’ve never been into post-anything labels, therefore they are a new wave band to me)
    Roxy Music
    Siouxsie and the Banshees

I saw them cover Public Image in Vienna in 2014. Just wicked

I keep seeing mention on here of a group called "The Boys". Were they new wave too?

Gives Boom an actual part in the band.  Lots of keys in new wave

To me, the most recognizable new wave indicator would be pronounced use of a synth. I don't think it will be anything dominant, there will probably just be flourishes. I was told it was one of many new things they experimented with on this album and it was a process that really tested them. I'm just excited to hear if this will be a radical change from their previous music, which is bound to disappoint some people. I hope they went out on a limb on this one.
1991- Hollywood Palladium, California with Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains -RIP Magazine Show Oct. 6th
    1992- Lollapalooza, Irvine, California
    Nothing since then. I suck.
2016- Fenway Park, Boston - Both glorious nights
    2022- Oakland Night 2

I’d love it if they went out on a limb and tried something new. They don’t have to go full Radiohead - though they did it perfectly - but experimentation would be great. Think Beatles. You know it’s the same band, but entirely new elements.

IMO the only real experimentation they’ve done thus far was Binaural, to a degree, and bringing Boom on for shows. I hope they play around a bit!

Soon to be RRHoF colleagues. Amazing band.  I love Alan a Wilder’s performance of Moonlight Sonata on the Little 15 B-side. Not perfect, but talk about a curveball!

Mark Lanegan's latest album was certainly new wave influenced. I really like that but hope the new PJ album isn't going to have too much of a new wave sound.

Love new wave but these day's I'm so hooked on darksynth / wave, synthwave, futuresynth artists like Carpenter Brut & Dance With The Dead.

1st Wave on Channel 33 SiriusXM Radio is my favourite, right after Channel 22. ;)

i’m way more excited about this tour and the new album than I have been since before BS.  That’s 11 years ago now!  Really looking forward to their experimentation and whatever they do
