June 1995 San Francisco Show

A shot in the dark - anyone else at the June 1995 show in San Francisco where Eddie Vedder got sick and Neil Young took over the show?
I am probably just showing my age.

  • I was there! Still have the ticket stub somewhere. What a treat to have Uncle Neil come out when Eddie went down...
  • I was there...it was hotter than shit, very unusual for S.F. in late June...I had chemicals flowing through me, let's just put it that way...it's funny, so many different people I've talked to since claim they only played two, maybe four songs, but it was actually seven before Ed had to call it quits. I dug the Mirror Ball/Neil's greatest hits set, I know a lot of people didn't...only lame thing was that they played "Rocking In The Free World" twice!

My PJ holy grail since then has been the setlist for that show...I;d give anything to know what they'd planned to play, especially in the context of what they'd been playing on that tour. (Well, maybe not anything, I do like having two kidneys...)

I remember “Animal” most distinctly - and Eddie telling the crowd how ill he was and that it had been a horrible 24 hours.  I don’t remember how many songs, if you say it was 7 then now I know!  It was indeed hotter than balls.  That was my first PJ show.  I was 16.  They had a makeup show later and I want to say that was in San Jose - maybe?  I am not sure.  I saw them multiple times in my teen years. Ben Harper opened for what I think was maybe the make up show and that was the first time I ever heard “I Got Shit (ID.)”  Thank you for reminiscing with me!

I probably still have the stub, too.  I have a shoebox somewhere with quite a few PJ ticket stubs.

Was it in GG Park? My friend was there with her dad, i was only in 7th grade at the time but i remember her saying something about the tickets being a pain in the ass bc they were fighting w Ticketmaster and then he got sick. Is this the same show? I really should be 10 years older, i missed out on a lot bc i was so young at the time. I did see them at BSB 94 with Neil, mazzy star, Tom petty, ministry, indigo girls, that was my first real concert!

I was at the show. I remember being slightly disappointed and then thought it was cool because the show became so unique with Neil Young. Looking back I am really glad I was at that show.

I have the set list from the Sacramento show two nights before- the crown jewel of my collection! 😊

I was there. Brutally hot, my scalp blistered!! Bad Religion pit was intense. I was 17, never been through that before. Somehow fought my way through opening mosh pits to the rail with my two buds. The crush of people was really awful, one guy turned blue. Got kicked in the head a ton by all the crowd surfers with Docs on. Eddie threw up on stage, but the band was tight that day.  There was a real fear for a few days the band might break up after all the crap trying to tour. Never saw the full set list before today , but I would have loved it.

That would have been a beauty (setlist) to hear in its entirety.

Holy shit, that's it! Those are the exact seven they played, the arrow is where the show stopped. This is going to sound so weird, but I'm at work right now, I have literally wondered about that setlist and the rest of the show for years, I'm not going to sit here sober in this sterile environment and ponder it, I'm going to wait till I get home in a chill atmosphere and then go through it. I can't do the same drugs I was doing in June of 1995, but a couple drinks and THC will do the trick...thank you so much!!!
  • Here's a closer up shot of the set list and the BGP handout and Ed's apology :)
I was so excited to see this at the Museum.
It was my first PJam show.  Obviously let down by the events of the day, but along with most everyone else really dug the vibe of the Neil Young set.  Still holding out hope Ed would come back out eventually and it was just a cool interlude.
The 11/4/95 San Jose show was an incredible gift that is still one of my top PJ shows.

That Sacramento show at the Cal Expo was my first PJ show!  Such amazing memories -- what a fun start to so many memories between then and now --- If I only knew then what I know now.

Yes, the make up show was at Spartan Stadium in San Jose. Still to this day the best Pearl Jam concert I've ever seen.

You can see the bandage on his left arm from the IV he had just to make the show.
